Did an hour and a bit of fun sideways action in the snow on my cross bike. Had a teammate for company, which is always fun. Excellent skills and core workout. If I'm good, I'll do another couple hours on the trainer later.

4 hours today, 2 with a gigantic group of maybe 80 on the Spectrum ride.

Team put on a good show, taking all of the sprints I think. I even did a leadout for maybe the first time ever!

First real ride all since since it's a rest week, it's nice to feel fresh again.

Sac River Ride, saw @caloso was out today as well. Power meter battery died halfway through the ride...bummer.

Kind of a crap ride, not a lot of cooperation or smooth working today. Took the final sprint by a couple bike lengths, so that's good.

I was five places but many many bike lengths behind you. You're looking really strong, particularly for January.

Yeah, that wasn't the smoothest River Ride I've ever been on. And I certainly didn't help much. SGW guy complaned that I took him off his line in the final sprint. I thought i was clear but he may have been right. Haven't been in a sprint in months and I am pretty rusty. I took a a couple of rotations on the way out and spent the way back just trying to stay out of the wind and not blow up.

Worth 185 tss for the day.

68 miles with 3x30' in TT position, felt really hard but was only 90%, 85%, and 82%. About 40 watts short of my TT power last summer. Maybe I'm still getting weaker and need to reduce my ftp even more. I already have it set 25 watts down from last February. OTOH, I guess the -40 TSB could be a major contributor... I'll have to wait and see how things look after this block.

Ordered a disc cover and a deep front wheel today.

Thanks, have been doing much more focused training lately and it seems to help. The sprints out there have been pretty hectic lately and people seem hypersensitive about their "lines". I don't even participate in the sprint going out and just try to take a big long pull about a mile from the sprint and then pull off. I've been doing the same on the final sprint, just coming around after the drop off Garden Highway to string out the field pre-sprint.

The ride overall was pretty rough, no real rotation going, guys not pulling through, one team in particular flying up the side of the group and then just sitting like 4th wheel. I think having more of the Specialized guys out there helps "regulate' the flow.

Aww yiss, the fuzz.

Cut yesterday's ride an hour short since I was on the trainer and wasn't feeling fully recovered, and today's workout is more important. Today is 5hrs with 3x30min tempo.

My coach is trying to kill me:

Tues: 2.5hrs incl. 2x40min Z3.
Wed: 1.5hrs recovery.
Thurs: 3hrs incl. 2x40min Z3. A granola bar is not enough food for a 2500kJ ride.
Fri: 1hr recovery.
Saturday: 2.5hrs incl. 4x20min at 300w. Freezing rain during third interval resulted in me taking shelter underneath an overhanging cliff, then barely making it home. Did 2.5 of the 4 intervals. I've experienced misery and physical desperation on many occasions (Ranger School, deployment) but that was the worst. My body almost shut down. Hot bath while eating pizza and coke, then stood in front of our wood burning stove wearing 3 layers and down-filled throw blanket.
Sunday (today): 4hrs at low Z2 effort. Should be warm-ish (45) and sunny today.

^^ was the "one granola bar" part of the training plan?

Freezing rain, yuck.

Do you ask your coach for a replacement indoor workout when your plan calls for a long ride and the weather is terrible, or do you just suck it up and go out? I ask for indoor substitutes and she has never told me to go out in bad weather - maybe she knows I'm a wimp about that.

No, I'm just a moron. Had three bottles of water/Skratch, but no actual food.

It wasn't supposed to rain, per Wunderground, etc. But, I live in a valley in western VA, near the WV border, and there is a weird rain shadow thing going on here sometimes. Tall (relatively) mountains and deep valleys. It was sunny and dry on the other side of the ridge line, where my fiancee was teaching yoga.

If 4.3 w/kg is tempo, that puts your FTP around 5.2...

Tried a 20min test on trainerroad, I definitely need a bigger fan, starting to feel heat is a pretty big limiting factor.

Almost 3 hours yesterday between the rollers in the afternoon and the trainer in the evening. I expected my legs to protest getting on the bike today, but I was able to get on for 90 minutes. Threw in 10x1 low cadence. Actually felt pretty good on the bike.

Just under 8 hours for the week, 442tss.

Team ride, a bit longer than planned, but good to get out and work together. 4 hours, 88 miles, 260 TSS

For the week, about 200 miles, 9.75 hours, 750 TSS.
