80 min of Z2 on the rollers this morning - my stomach was less than solid last weekend, but it seems okay now.
I am racing in 10 days, was just off the bike for about 12 days with a stomach bug. Freaking out just a little bit about getting back in racing shape.

3x VO2 climb, 3rd best personal time on the first. Haven't done much VO2 in a while, focusing on other stuff and wanted to ease back in (hence only 3x). Followed it up with a bunch of various sprints, 10" to 35". Last 3 did seated, 34 mph in the 34t ring.

About 2hrs, 32 miles, outside. Spring seems to be springing. Managed to tie a pro on a segment I usually do, which means it was probably easy for him but medium-hard for me lol

Leg day at the gym. Local one was closed so I had to go to the one across town, and wait in line for the machines. Getting significantly stronger. Some of that is muscle memory, but some is strength. Hopefully will be back on the bike next week, going off more of a feel than a timeline. If I get it wrong I'll probably have to take another few weeks off so its better to be conservative.

Well, looks like I am doing Tour of Gila this year. Hard to pass that up with the team covering entry and housing costs.
Which begs the question, whats the best option for the TT for a guy that doesn't have the money for a TT bike. I guess clip on bars, but my understanding is that requires a saddle adjustment or you'll struggle with power.

For me aero bars, $200 fit, skinsuit, disc cover, 80mm front, TT helmet all added barely 1.5 mph, if that. IAB in road position gained more.

also (free)--spend TIME in the position. don't expect to just show up, pop on the clip-ons and ride your normal power.
have fun. that gila TT is insane. you can hit 50+mph and the crosswinds in that terrain can turn on and off. was blowing 30+ when i was out there. i'd love to go back but not sure it will happen this year.

TT helmet. proper skin suit. clip-ons (you *may* want a 2nd seatpost+saddle set up for that position...can be more convenient at a bit of cost--without making a saddle position change, you *may* be better off just hammering in the drops). deep(er) wheels.
also (free)--spend TIME in the position. don't expect to just show up, pop on the clip-ons and ride your normal power.

Definitely need to practice the position, heck even riding lower in the drops I feel like my power starts to drop noticeably. I should have the fitness to do anywhere from well to very well in the 4s race; but the whole racing/other riders thing is a different matter altogether. Fortunately we have two excellent group rides each weekend, so I'm planning to hit those regularly as well as a crit or two to get some racing/pack riding experience before the event.
Definitely going to be an adventure.

One other question I might ask is since my training has been 95% tempo/threshold stuff the last 3 or 4 months, with the occassional (bi monthly?) VO2 type workout, should I throw anything else into my training, or are the group rides sufficient for that?

What's the course like? Looks like a fair bit of climbing for a TT. Of course that's all the better for me

RE: TT position, just make sure you don't get too aggressive with it, there's a fine balance between being super aero and losing 100W because you're kneeing yourself in the nipples 95 times a minute.
