Columbia ... Sprint to survive.
Same ride this AM as @caloso . You were looking strong today, btw. 80 miles or so since I rode from home. Missed the first sprint as the lead out guy for another team pealed off right as I went to jump around him right. No biggee. Took some hard pulls coming back in and took a long dig heading into the last 1k. Good fun, fast ride.

~2 minute intervals on the local steep training hill. Yeah, anaerobic capacity and recovery need work. Managed basically three and a half, fading badly each time. I think I've been so focused for such a long time on improving threshold power that I've totally neglected anything shorter. My starting point isn't bad, 410W for 2m and 471 for 1m, but I faded badly on each subsequent interval so there's lots of head room to get both my power up and the ability to repeat it.

there's three that count. 92, firestation sign, and stanford sprint on junipero
there's some others that are sortas, depending if they are contested. top of alpine, halfway down portola there is some mystery sprint, and then the end of mtn home is sometimes contested

There's a group ride here which has defined sprint points, people take them way too seriously... the lady who "runs" that ride even sends out weekly email blasts, keeps track of the winner of each sprint, and gives out awards at the end of the year :|

60-ish miles, 200 tss. Warmed up by riding a few mles with the B's. Seemed like half our women's team was doing that ride, good for them. Dropped myself off the back, rode back to the A group. The plan was to work my way to the front, blow myself up, then drift back, recover, and repeat. Of course, @hack says hello to me as I'm dying and gasping for breath.
**** that

thats my favorite one and I almost always win it. Kevin goes for it so that makes it a real sprint.
anyway I took 92 yesterday, and jeff took the Stanford one from the break. sounds like they just rolled thru the firehouse one.
the "mystery sprint" seems to be an AV exclusive; jeff says there used to be a town limit sign there. he led me out for that one and I took it, but it felt weird bc only like two other guys went for it.

84 mile endurance ride with a bit of climbing (6700 ft total). Hit the climbs around threshold for 8', 14' (semi-paved trail), 8', and finally a 30' dirt climb, sub-threshold but still really hard with all the steep bumps.
Week:
18:20
330 miles
15,600 feet
View from the trail today:

Sunday effort is usually z2 to the hill, a 25min effort, then z2 home. That 25min effort is at full gas, vo2 work.
Today my hr continued its trend of being about 10bpm high, been like this a week or so. Both resting and during workout but I have no issue maintaining once I get it up. Any ideas what can cause higher hr? I know dehydration, how about being sick?

Oddly enough despite racing yesterday I feel 100%. I may ride today, but slow enough to keep the powers that reign supreme over training from telling me I'm an idiot.

3 hours with the team yesterday in the cold and wind. Not hard, but legs were a little tired afterwards. Feeling okay today, though.
Got myself some coaching. Local, cheap, guy knows me. Thank goodness. Hopefully having someone else to tell me what to do will help.

Skipped leg day, 3 hours working with a jackhammer, which may or may not have been good for my recovery. Right now I'm in that mode where I feel good enough to ride a bike but still have to wait since I'm 95% healed. Biggest issue is the muscle caused inflammation in my hip joint when I ride and the swelling isn't completely gone.

-HOP ride/east bay saturday
-goal of doing as much work/expending as many matches as possible . accomplished that. Had wings/racing winning legs. isnt that always the way...on a training ride
-sensible lunch, wasnt really hungry skipped dinner
-typical 60 mile training ride sunday (los altos/canada area). no food before or during. water only
-169 on scale this AM pre-morning 'evacuation'. was 169 at end of season last year
-that's minus 7lbs since Feb 1. Mostly portion control and not hate-eating ice cream before i go to bed.
-sub 165 really a possibility this year.
