That was you. i talked to you for a bit after your race. that was a well earned result. not a cheapy. later in the 45+ race a guy who had teammates in the field soloed the entire race from the gun. For such a little backwater event guys were putting in some serious efforts.

Honestly I don't think it was that bad. The corners actually had tons of grip, and I had fun on them.. I am not sure what caused that crash in the beginning. The dude said something about spinning out his rear tire. It happened after the apex and we were already bringing out bikes up, or starting to, so not sure if that is what really happened. It was a weird crash.

I really wish I'd been near the front when the first move went. I could have hung with the lead group. Their pace was faster only on the flats, where I was honestly a little bored in our group. woulda-coulda-shoulda.

At the start line, shove down a clif bar. Bottle 1 is 2 scoops perpeteum, which lasted about 2 hours. At each hour I swallowed a tube of shot blocks. 2nd bottle was water and back bottle was perpeteum too.
clif bar: 240kcal
Perpeteum: 270kcal * 2
shot blocks: 200 * 4
I think I also ate one of my emergency gels when I started falling asleep on the bike in the 4th lap: 100kcal
total: 1680kcal consumed over 5 hours. A little higher than normal, but I needed the sugar badly.
post ride: legit burrito supreme at some mexican place in the central valley.
dinner: pulled port and brisket, collard greens, baked beans
handful of protein shakes from the time I was home until bed. lots of liquids. like, gallon+
today I felt alright. def fatigue. HR was +15 beats from normal at wake-up, but I was still able to do some decent ftp climbing.

My 3 lap race I had fig newtons for 200 cal just before starting, and 3 bottles for 300 cal each =1100. So similar amount by time I guess.
Post race 380 cal protien bar plus fig newtons the whole way home.
There must be something about burritos that makes them so wonderful post race. My dinner was a HUGE burrito at a little hole in the wall place. Must have been at least 1500 calories.

Yikes...I need to dial in nutrition it seems. For the last few road races (heck, even longer road rides) I've done, I take a couple bottles of water and if I remember, a gel shot. So...not much going in for all that's coming out. Figure 2-3 hours hard riding.

Not sure...good team tactic on their part though Get one guy out front, another takes out the field with a crash, and the third blocks for the rest of the race.
Hard to tell in the video, but it looks like he took it too hard and had to turn late or tried to turn a bit more at the end to avoid the few potholes out to the outside.

Copperopolis RR - P12 - 15th-ish of 50-ish.
Duration: 5:10:50 (99%)
Moving time: 5:10:17 (99%)
Distance: 109mi
Climbing: 11529ft
Work: 4391kJ
108mi RR so we're not going hard on the first lap, right? Nah.
I think Ex has done Copperopolis and can attest, but it's basically a 21mi loop of cold-patch asphalt layers which look like they've been poured out of buckets by a helicopter. To do so many miles at effort on that was brutal. I was super happy to finish, show decently, and never have to race 5 laps of that again. m123 is only 3 laps next year!

Ontario Crits: race was my 4th ride after three weeks off the bike. Had a cold that developed into walking pneumonia, right when the antibiotics started to kick in I had to go in for a spinal dye imaging session that left me with a 4 day pounding headache.
50+ was a very aggressive slugfest, moves, countermoves, attacks. I was busy. Last lap I hit the front to lead out my tandem partner; didn't have my usual kick and had to cut it short. Coughed for the next hour until:
45+ I made a long solo bridge to what turned out to be the winning break, 8 strong guys when I made it across. 4 of the guys sat up right whenI got there, before I had a chance to recover some one hit the gas hard and I dangled and finally fell out. Can't remember the last time that happened to me in a break. Just didn't have any snap left. Oh well.

UNR Campus Criterium E-3/4/5, 2/20+
Fairly technical ~1K loop with ~20m of elevation gain giving a fast downhill right, chicane, headwind on the flat, and a steep kicker into a slight uphill sprint finish. The course didn't lend itself to a solo win, and a larger break would have a difficult time getting an efficient rotation.
I started the race with a poor clip in and put in a lot of effort moving up the first few laps as a few people (E3?) put in a lot of effort early to split the field, but the race settled in after 4 laps. Throughout the race here were a few solo breaks that didn't get anyone to go along and were pulled back, and the early primes were won by <1sec over the field. At 5 to go a prime was called and the field seemed to be slacking so I attacked. Turned out the person who I thought was on my wheel wasn't there, and the prime got sniped by someone stronger/smarter than me. When the prime winner and I looked back there was a gap and we put our heads down to keep our beak away. I ended up with a poor position in the 2 man rotation (headwind and kicker vs slight uphill and downhill w/ technical corner) but I didn't want to risk the break to fight over who was pulling where as at 4 to go it was an all or nothing*. On the final strait my beak mate jumped around me on the kicker and I didn't have enough to pull him back.
<knock on wood>There were a few other strong riders whom I looked for to make a move but caught lady luck on a bad day to get a flat. There was also a solo crash in the field on the last lap that probably slowed the chase.
*If there wasn't a gap and someone to work with at the prime I was going to regroup into the field for the sprint.

small field, but enough for upgrade points. sat in until 7 laps to go/prime. counter attacked the prime, it didnt stick, but legs felt good. final lap...attacked with just over 1KM to go. never looked back, focused carrying as much speed into the final roundabout. braking as late as possible. held the lead and won by several bike lengths. I'm pretty good over 1KM but its hard to kilo away from 70 guys...but its doable against a small group
35 +3/4
field bigger than the E3's
result 5th
kinda just sat in until 3 laps to go. i attacked there. I was kinda being watched after the last race. but i figured if everyone was tired from having raced already i might be able to solo the final 3 laps. I didnt quite account for a guy who hadnt raced yet and when i had to back off a bit, he went over the top and got a nice 50m gap. I resumed chasing for the final 2 laps kept the distance even....almost closed him down, but ran out of gas heading into the sprint. i got passed by the guys behind me. cost myself an u pgrade point because most of the race was 3s. But my suicidal attack earned me ANOTHER hat. and per the race official...a standing ovation from hat distributor Jess Rafael. so that happened.
Re the course : I actually liked the course. if you could take the roundabouts smoothly you could save alot of energy. if not you were sprinting out of every corner. and i was pretty good at the u-turns.
also the area with the pitbull/low rider show smelled heavily of marijuana. and if it wasnt so windy it would have been a fog of BBQ smoke and marijuana down there. good times.

Masters 1/2/3 PIR Monday - cold wet and small field - 1st place
I am guessing we topped 20 riders, but only just. Add in rain and dipping temps and it lead to a compact bunch who just wanted to go home and stay together. This turned out to make for the perfect result for a lazy sprinter, but did not do much for my fitness or for my working on timing and field position. I was lucky to be able to move around as needed and was pulled to the front on the final lap by other teams and was 3rd spot behind the guy who attacked the field 1 mile from the finish and the the guy who bridged the final gap to pull him in. We caught the attacker at 250 meters and I immediately kept going and launched my sprint, I don't think I could have been in a better spot to finish the race if I had a 4 person leadout.
So a win for me, and a lead in the monthly series, but that means I will need to make the break next week.
Ave power at this race last week ... 250, this week 185. The cold rain made a huge difference, but we all stayed up and rode in happy. My reward .... my awesome wife had homemade spaghetti waiting for me ... mmmm good.
