for anything other than cat 5, i think those kinds of rules are a little dumb. it's a race. you have the right gear for the game.

Probably a super remedial question, but here goes. My bikes all have BB86 shimano bottom brackets. Can I use a Rotor 3D crank set without having to change the bottom bracket or adding any adapters? Rotor's lil pdf guide would lead me to think I could. Contemplating grabbing a closeout power2max power meter.

I think you are going to have to buy another bottom bracket. The chart fudgy posted shows bb type comparability. But you probably will need a Rotor-specific bb.

basically. if you do it correctly it shouldn't wear anything.

Yeah, it shouldn't be a problem if removed properly. Most press fit BBs - which is what is in a BB86 - have a plastic or rubber shell around the bearings, so there isn't much to cause damage.

This should be the BB you need: Press Fit 24 BB (BB86) - BB8624. And I think the reference to Shimano standards refers to the frames being made to fit Shimano cranks. I don't think it refers to the ability to use Shimano cranks in Rotor BB and vice versa.

Yep, and I train and race on Conti GP4000S IIs, for similar reasons (having only one wheelset is another reason). There are faster tires, but both the Pro4 Endurance and GP4000S (II) are at a very nice sweet spot of rolling resistance, durability and flat resistance. If maximum possible performance is the goal, different tires are a good thing to target, but there are other factors to consider.

I used to ride on Specialized Turbos, but honestly prefer Pro4s. They last a bit longer, less issues with quality, and I think they have better grip in the wet.

My tastes are more plebian. I'd like an Ultegra 11-23, please.

The current production S-Works Turbos are supposed to be a significant improvement over earlier models. I guess I'll find out.
