hack 07-21-15 08:10 AM

So, got a Zipp 900 for the TT bike (yay). I put an 11-23 ultegra 6700 cassette w/1mm spacer on it last night, but there was some play. So, added a second 1mm spacer and still had play. Added a third 1mm spacer and that eliminated the play. Seems like a lot of spacers to me. The wheel is a 2012 and SHOULD be a 9/10 and the hub doesn't have the "11-speed" markings like I see on Zipps website. So ...anyone else ever find themselves adding way more spacers than initially thought?

Ygduf 07-21-15 11:35 AM

are you sure it's a 10s cassette?

shovelhd 07-21-15 11:46 AM

2012 was the borderline year for 10 to 11. Do you have an 11 speed cassette to try on it?

hack 07-21-15 12:00 PM

Cassette is 10 speed for sure. I checked that one right away. I don't have an 11 to thrown on for comparison either. If it was an 11 hub, I'd need the 1mm spacer and a 1.84mm spacer bringing the total to 2.84mm. So, if I'm needing 3mm it might be an 11 hub after all.

That's what I was thinking. If you weren't on the other side of the country I'd lend you one.

Thanks. I'll be joining up with the team in a couple days and can snake one of theirs for a test. Any issues with running a 10s with the hodge podged spacer setup for a day in the interim?

shovelhd 07-21-15 12:23 PM

It might be a little noisy but a few rides isn't going to make much difference. Once you know what's up, any shop will have the proper spacer.

fwiw, when I run 10s on 11s hubs I never use the 1.84 spacer. it's always either too big or too little. I just get close enough and then fix the limits.

revchuck 07-21-15 01:14 PM

The only 11 speed hubs I have are Powertap, and the supplied spacer works perfectly with ten speed cassettes.

hack 07-21-15 01:56 PM

The fit is pretty close with the 3mm spacer (vs 2.85). The indexing is off, but that's fixable. Ill give it a whirl and adjust as needed.

mike868y 07-21-15 02:09 PM

if the limit screws are right, I don't think the lateral position of the cassette affects indexing

poor word choice on my part ... the indexing is prob all good, it just shifts like poo right now. will tweak the limit screws.

Just got the WKO4 email. Still pretty happy with Cycling Analytics. :)

mattm 07-22-15 12:29 PM

Excited for WKO4!

Can finally throw away the Windows emulator I use just for WKO3.. assuming it works well and whatnot.

Me too but I don't run the extra 1mm spacer on top of that which some people recommend. I can't get the lock ring to thread if I try.

I wasted money on WKO3 as I had it on an older POS windows lap top (I"'m a Mac guy). I've been using TrainingPeaks for the past few years is it worth it to go WKO4?

hl3!

Dunbar 07-22-15 03:42 PM

I bought WKO 4 today. I've been waiting patiently and only using Strava Premium up to this point. I sync'd Garmin Connect to Training Peaks but I have no data in there yet.

We, the huddled and unprivileged masses who cannot afford a Mac are inconsequential, mocked because of our inaccurate +-2% power meters and McDonalds coffee. Live the struggle.

Ive been using wko 3.0...I may end up buying 4.0 when its released for w10

They're different beasts. I've been using/testing WKO4 for some time now. It is a very powerful analytical tool and highly flexible in that regard.

it does, but it is not a trivial switch.

Hard for me to say whether it is worth it or not as I don't know the cost....but I think as with wko3 its strength is working with multiple athletes and/or deep analytical dives (IMO). Can talk more with you about it...or show it to you this weekend. :)
