Ok, bit of an Aussie question.

What year did Michael Wilson win a stage in the Giro d'Italia?

What grit & determination! :) Adri van der Poel (NL), a former cyclocrosser and roadie, was also known for such 'pre-race warm-ups'. But I doubt he ever did anything that crazy as 'El Cocho'...

Bruco is the man!!! '82 it was. He beat a young Fignon.

Over to you Bruco.

Cheers, classic1.

Here's a question for those who have a keen eye for details. As you all know, my country has only :( two Tour de France winners: Joop Zoetemelk and Jan Janssen. The latter took it in the final ITT. What I want to hear from you is: which material was used for the construction of the winning tyres?

classic1 04-01-05 05:20 AM

I'll have a guess.....silk.

classic1, I wish my 'knowing' were as good as your 'guessing'. Congratulations; you gave the correct answer. Your turn!

classic1 04-01-05 05:41 AM

It was an educated guess!

Another Aussie question. How many times did Phil Anderson finish the Tour de France?

lotek 04-01-05 10:58 AM

I think 5 completed Tours for Anderson

gcasillo 04-01-05 11:11 AM

I'll pull a Price Is Right and say one.

classic1 04-01-05 06:16 PM

Waaaay higher

Crack'n'fail 04-01-05 06:45 PM

i can't find it, but I know he finished in the top ten 5 times

squeegy200 04-01-05 08:45 PM

Great stuff!

Bruco 04-02-05 03:50 AM

Phil Anderson: most 'non-European' starts in the history of the Tour de France.

classic1 04-02-05 06:33 AM

It's been 24 hours so I'll post the answer.

Anderson finished every Tour he started. 13 finishes. He missed '88 as his TVM team did not get selected.

Another question. What year was Andersons first as a pro?

Crack'n'fail 04-02-05 08:22 AM

1980, racing for Peugot

Your turn.

Since the Tour of Flanders is this weekend:

Belgians have dominated this event throughout the years winning 56 of the 86 editions. 3 belgians have won it 3 times (including Museeuw.) But only one rider has won it 3 times in succession. What was his name and nationality?

You are correct, sir!

your turn.

Laggard 04-02-05 02:28 PM

Only one Brit has won the Tour of Flanders.

Who was he and what city was he BORN in?

gcasillo 04-02-05 02:35 PM

Tom Simpson won in 1961. Born 30 November 1937, Haswell, County Durham, England. But a long-time resident of Harworth, Nottinghamshire; just outside Doncaster, Yorkshire - the place he "adopted" as his home.

Tragically, he died on Mt. Ventoux during the Tour de France of 1967.
