Needless to say, very sad. They have not caught the motorist yet, that I know of. This is part of a very popular bike route, as well. If the place they showed is where the cyclist got hit, I don't see how it was dangerous in and of itself. There is a decent shoulder, and plenty of visibility. Yes, it's dangerous because the motorists...

I've ridden HWY 1 a few times, dont like it. Yes, nice shoulders but drivers are distracted by the scenery and hauling a$$, trucks and RV/s too. Too many close calls.
It's a horribly sad story, I wonder if he was visiting the area from Mass., maybe a student. My son lives/rides down there full-time, the story feels too close to home for me. Simply frightening.

I know that place well, having toured through there southbound five times. On the southbound side there is a separated class I bike path for a mile or so.
