Yes, raise the angle of the camera so it is not mostly looking at the ground.

The misunderstandings in this thread have all been due to your poor video. So stop being a jerk to those that did not immediately understand what exactly happened - it was your job to make things clear in the OP.

Points well taken, thank you for the advice. You are a wise person.

And that by turning your video over to the police sooner that you could have prevented it?
Locally, the last two persons that were hit and killed by a motor vehicle , no alcohol/drugs were involved, no criminal charges were ever filed against the motorists. I seriously doubt that any of my videos, that I'm "sitting on ", would have made a difference in any future incident by my showing them to law enforcement.

A day or two after I made my last report of a close pass, the local tv news did a detailed report on giving bicyclists more passing distance as well as on a proposed 3 ft passing law that was going through our state's legislature at the time. The tv report could have been pure coincidence, or something to related to my report.

looks to me as if the OP is merging onto another roadway from the one he is on, as evidenced by the fact that he would have to cross the roadway to get to the right side of the road he is entering. thus, the truck has the right of way and the OP has the duty to yield. i don't see any confusion or grey area on this one at all.

ok, after checking out google earth and your photo, i can see that the roadway does not continue to the right. yeah, i can now see your point about the truck; he seemed to be going pretty fast for entering a dead-end !!

I understand that, but the point that I was trying to make is that anyone who is recording their ride(s) could have the evidence that would be just what the police/DA need to put the "final nail" into a drivers coffin as it were.

But that isn't another roadway, adablduya. Here is the truck's point of view. He was just pulling over in the little dead-end spot. Kind of unexpected, but it doesn't look ridiculously dangerous. I think the truck saw the bike and got all the way over to the left to try to give Surfer34 more room (albeit on the left side of the road).

I agree Doohickie the truck did pretty good i wouldn't think anything of it, the world isn't as black and white as the rules are, sometimes.

Our local police and DA are more focused on other areas of the legal system, seeing first hand on what shorted results that others, in the pursuit of local legal justice, attained in more serious crimes, I'm fooling myself if I think that I'm going to help our local DA drive that "final nail".

Eh. Was it really that close? Hard to tell from the video. If that's the kind of "close call" that freaks you out, you should try riding in Manhattan some time!

I too was having a difficult time identifying the problem in the video. city truck 'crosses over' lane divider? what lane divider?

vehicles commonly control the center of narrow residential lanes like that, i can't tell what the OP is complaining about except the bicyclist moving too fast for conditions if he got surprised by a truck at a blind corner in a suburb.

glad it wasn't any worse for him!

thanks surfer34 your video is a great . . .

. . .example of a why you need to be aware of everything, unfortunately. that "intersection" is why the word blind is used by the seeing. it would nice if that was as close as it gets for you. good training video for both cyclist and motorist tho, you should edit it with shark music.

While I think the driver could have been more cautious pulling into that pullout, I can't see where this is a close call at all. The cyclist hardly slowed down. Looks like normal give and take when riding in traffic. Drivers aren't perfect, and I'm not condoning full-on boneheaded dangerousness, but that was just a ill-timed turn which caused a slight inconvenience (and evidently large irritation) to the cyclist.
