What does this screw do?
So I figured everything out on my new mountain bike except this screw attached to my brake shifter. Does turning it clockwise makes the tension of shifter tighter? I've turned it several time and still not firm of what it does. Thanks for helping a newb.

That's for adjusting the reach of the brake lever, making it start out closer to the bar(for folks with smaller hands/fingers).

Yes.
If you're going to adjust it, I'd suggest pulling the lever while doing so, then release the lever after turning the screw to check its position. That way, the rotating screw isn't grinding away at the lever. (Same goes for derailleur limit screws. Don't turn 'em while they're engaged.)

Thanks for the advice.
