So I don't know what it is, but it's definitively not a cassette of any type. It's a freewheel but a type I've not encountered before.

Yeah, you and me both. Can you post more photos showing the axle parts and how they are oriented in relation to the wheel?

I don't have a FH body to look at handy, but I wonder if an older style Shimano FH body would fit the splines.
I can't tell if there's threads for the fixing bolt or not??

I'm still betting on a SunTour cassette hub. The spline pattern on the hub matches the one in this thread: Remove Suntour freehub body?

It looks like the OP's hub is missing the center bolt and the right-side ball cup. Without knowing the condition of the hub before disassembly it's hard to know if it was intact to begin with.

Although it does seem strange that an early 2000s Gary Fisher would have a 7 speed.
Post #5 OP says it's a Suntour hub.

You may have accomplished removing the freehub with the cogs still attached.

This might have some useful info: Barner's Babble: Overhaul Suntour XC Pro Rear Hub

I have the same hub set up on a Fisher AL1. Did you manage to remove the inner cone with the pin holes?
