Punctuation is your friend.

No, Jamis is just another American brand that's sold its soul to Madison Ave. and cheap Chinese labor.
When I first perused their site, I was also under the impression they were a small USA made operation.
At least they are less costly than the Trek or Specialized counterpart, without cheaping on quality to do so.

hey thanks for the respose I guess I just need to suck up our international market!! I assume only schwinn is left or did they sell out ? The bad thing is we cant afford a 30 dollar an hour american to put chains on

Schwinn? Schwinn has been chinese-made bikes since the 90's.
Trek makes most of its over $800 bikes in the US (so I've read) and Cannondale makes I think the majority of their bikes in the US. Beyond that I don't know of major manufacturers that make their bikes here.
Most bikes are made in taiwan or china.

Yeah, that's a good one. By the late '80's, approximately 80% of Schwinn's frames were built by Giant in Taiwan. Not that they're bad bikes.......FWIW, Schwinn's Chicago manufacturing plant shut down in 1983, and the Greenville, Mississippi Schwinn plant shut down in 1991. Schwinn was bleeding red ink, and went bankrupt. I'm not sure if there's been an American made Schwinn, aside from the higher end Waterford-built and Serotta-built models, since the Greenville plant shut down in '91.

Also, 30 years ago Schwinns were built in the USA, French bikes were built in France and Italian bikes were built in (wait for it...) ITALY!

The frames and components coming out of Taiwan, and now China, CAN be of very high quality. Crap bike components can come from ANYWHERE- China, Taiwan, Italy, and yes, the USA. These days, people need to look beyond borders because this is indeed a global economy and workplace.

Giants are made in Taiwan and they make some mighty fine bikes (got 2 TCR Compites myself), even rebrand many models as Specialized. Nothing wrong with cheap Chinese labor if the end result is a quality product. Global economy, baby. Never thought I'd be wearing a Nike shoe made in 'Nam.

People on this forum need to learn that Taiwan is not the same as China. Country of origin should be disregarded in terms of product quality. A product should be evaluated on it's own properties.

I have no problem with the country of origin of a quality product. I take issue with certain companies that market themselves as a particular domestic entity wholly promoting themselves as patriotic, have their manufacturing base generations past now long gone...when the inventory is simply ordered out of a catalog and a vinyl sticker slapped onto it.
Come on, admit the irony of a Bianchi headtube crest, with a Made in Taiwan sticker beneath it.

I believe you I think the whole lance thing is why I am not thrilled about trek anymore what I mean is they always take the product being used by the best player and market and sell a watered down version to us little people and I want them to know theres a lot more educated consumers that they think..not that they care but thats why I'm askin questions to lean where to better spend my 1000 bucks. If anyone dont believe the watered down version ask someone knowledgable in the golf industry. you think the clubs tiger uses are the nikies you buy off the shelf? there is one lpga girl I know personally and she has cleveland head covers for advertising but refuses to use there clubs she dont like them but I bet young girls everywhere are buying them.

Most running shoes, athletic shoes (football, basketball, soccer, hiking) are made in the Far East (China, Vietnam, etc.). Funny you don't hear sports persons complaining about workmanship of their shoes.

Cervelo is a Canadian company. But I think all their bike frames are from the Far East. The discontinued models: Renaissance and Prodigy were the steel frames from Columbus. But I don't know where those tubes were welded, painted, etc.
