Campy Front Derailleur
is there anyway to modify a 34.9 clamp style record front mech to become a braze on? or am i just going to have to fork over the cash for a new braze-on style?

You can always post a swap in the "for trade" sticky in the Road Forum.

No, you can not modify it, unless you already have a braze-on + adapter and don't realize it.

you would need to find the replacement part for the braze on derailuer that is the actual mount. your better off just looking for another one or swapping.

The clamp band of campy record front derailleurs is integrated into the design of the derailleur. There is not a way to remove the derailleur body from the clamp and install as braze-on type derailleur. Look around, 2 weeks ago I bought a NIB Record 10sp QS FD (32mm clamp) for about $35 on ebay. There are deals out there.

I swapped the mounting between a clamp on Record FD and braze-on Xenon FD without a problem. If you go to the Campagnolo web site you can look at the FD parts lists and get an idea of what you need to do. IIRC the Xenon and Record braze-on mount had the same part number. In other words you might find it feasible to buy a cheaper or damaged Campagnolo FD and make the swap, or simply buy the small braze-on part that has the limit screws on it.
