Adjust chainline?!

Well i have got a Phil Woods rear hub 120mm wide.

It fits my frame perfectly (spacing is 120mm doh! ), but how do i adjust the chain line when it fits "perfectly."

My frame goes exactly to the pink lines on both sites, so as i see it with my newb-eyes there is no where to put shims?

EDIT: The chainline is about a "chain-width" ≈ 1cm off.

Can you move the chainring to the other side of the spider? I that doesn't get you there, you will need a different length of bottom bracket.

As already mentioned above you need to play around with either the bottom bracket or crankset/chain ring, not the hub.

It will usually work, and you'd rather have functional than pretty, right?

The phil BB can be adjusted for chainline. It might be enough to be acceptable for you.

45 mm is a nonstandard (outboard by ~ 3mm) WITH a 103mm JIS tapered bb (which is the shortest that is available), with the chainring on the outside. If you need to move the chainline inboard, which you will have to do for most fixed gear wheelsets, you're basicaly down to a longer bb and running the chainring on the inside.

There's nothing going for this crankset at all but it seems to be extremely popular. Makes no sense. This is why I dislike it. Anyways that's besides the point. Already given you two options from this thread alone. One does not require tossing your current bb (possibly).

isn't the RD2 just a relabelling of their 130/74 triple?

The quick and easy answer is 'you dont'. It is what it is in the back. Your only option is to mess around with the BB/Crankset/Chainring.

I'm power bumping my thread

I'm getting a bit tired of my RD2 Messenger set, and might look for something to replace it and at the same time go for an "easier" gearing than my current 48/17 (which is way to much for me). I'm a light guy, sub-70kg, any suggestions for a teeth count on a new chainring?

I would like something a bit industrial looking like this: THIS or: THIS.

What u can do if you cant change your BB is to go to the LBS and ask them for BB spacers, many MB cranksets come with them, buy one, probably they will give it to for free and put that where u thread the cog (where it needs to be it is pretty obvious), put the cog in, put the lockring... all set.

This will move the BB maybe 3 or 4 mms outwards...

Good luck.

ps: this is the simpliest way to fix it.

Sure its an option, and thanks . But I still would have to mount the chaniring on the inside of the crankarms which does not look good.

I have a bit of money in my pocket so i would like to make it function as it should, look the way it was suppose to, and go for a smaller chanring. But i need a bit of help

Btw: Can anyone identity the chanrings in the two pictures?
