Bikes: Trek Elite 9.8

What is this part called?

CABLE STOP?, CLAMP-ON CABLE STOP?, CABLE GUIDE?, GEAR CABLE STOP?, DERAILLEUR CABLE GUIDE?, CHAINSTAY FITTING?

I believe its called a CABLE STOP but not sure - anyone know?... and where can I buy it? Need a few since my vintage frames don't have brazed-on "stops".

Thanks!

Try the C&V forum. If anyone knows where to get these things, they should.

Why run the cable with stops at all? Just run full housing and use zip ties (or cable/housing guides).

One should have a stop, with ferrules, to keep the derailleur functioning smoothly. The 'stops' are out there. Just needs to keep looking...

I run several derailleurs without benefit of stops, work fine, stops are not necessary.

Here's a catalog item for a 5/8" frame tube cable stop. Looks like it would work on a chainstay.
https://www.oldbicyclejunk.com/store/...p?categoryID=2

Of course there are several available for downtubes.

Here we are:

https://www.oldbicyclejunk.com/store/...?productID=243

Thanks, Al - I just clarified the list you posted.

Thanks for the SJS-link. Very good outfit, but the OP is in Idaho. The oldbicyclejunk one is in Rhode Island. The SJS would kill him on postage.

Looks like a pretty good shop. If I want a part bad enough the postage is not going to get in my way.
Cheers,
Al

SJS? Yes it is - and very quick, too. I've found a few items there I needed. And the USA was bereft of such. They make ordering from the USA very simple.

Yeah, I usually head for Bike Tools Etc. too. They've done right by me. They're in the same town as Third Hand/Loose Screws, but I couldn't find a clamp-on derailleur cable stop in their catalog:

Thanks for the help. Looks like the name varies slightly yet your links have put me on track to getting the part. Thanks again.

Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.

Here's some more. US$7.00 + shipping for the Campagnolo #636 chain stay cable stop clamp.

I can vouch for oldbicyclejunk.com. Ordered from them a few times, shipped fast and cheap. I am in Massachusetts though, so RI is pretty close.

Thanks so very much for the oldbicyclejunk.com link. As if I didn't spend enough time online looking for stuff. Oh look, they have Flickstands...they sell for big money on ebay!
