Ergo 10 compatibility with vintage double/triple cranks/chainrings?

I'm building up a new rando bike, 130 mm spacing rear with a compact double of 30x46 and a Campag ergo 10 cassette by IRD of 11-30 w/ alloy derailleurs/brifters. The VO grand cru cyclotourist style crankset would work but is described as 5-9 speed compatible only. Can someone explain why it would not work with a ten speed chain? An old TA crank w/ TA rings from the bins would be similar I'd expect. I want good shifting with a modern compact set up, but do want gears almost as low as my touring set up, or 28-32, and all alloy.

Regards,

Dan

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

Ergo 10 doesn't have index front shifting, but a series of micro clicks whereby the FD is shifted and trimmed the old fashioned way, by feel and sound. The levers have enough throw to support triples, so you won't have any compatibility issues. The only issue you might face is chainring separation which is too wide for the chain, and allows it to hang-up when downshifting.
