2x handlebar tricks (sliding a quill stem off and rethreading internal cable housing)

I am working on a couple of projects and arrived at another iteration of couple of handlebar issues that have perplexed me in the past, but have me stumped today, I thought it prudent to take a break, but the stuff down and ask for help.

1. is there an easier way to slide an old style quill stem off the bars? in the past it's been sticky but I've managed. Today my 3T is well-jammed at the bend on these Cinelli bars. I've loosen the stem bolt of course but there it sits, half way off, stuck.

Is the stem designed to be more easily removable if at a certain position or angle?

(dish washing soap?)

2. some of my bars had/have cable housing running inside the bars. even if the housing didn't need to be replaced due to age, to remove a quill stem the housing on at least one side has to be either removed to tucked in at least flush.

if the housing comes out or is really crap, how do I rethread new housing. It seems like threading a needle blind to try to get it to pop out the exit hole.

(piece of stiff wire as a pilot and then thread the housing over the wire?)

Quill stems are narrower at the bottom of the handlebar clamp than the top.
the narrow side when pointed at the axis of the bend, will let the bar go thru the clamp easily.

You just have to rotate the bend so it is in the proper orientation to the clamp.

a housing run requiring a hole in the bars is a kludge.
Modern bars all have a groove drawn in the outside of the bar, there are no holes.

that hole is a weakened spot, I would replace the handlebar.

you just have to fanagle the stem off. I have had times when I struggled and the next time it just popped off. a huge screwdriver or a park HS wrench can be ysed to spread the clamp a bit.

as for the housing running through the bars that is late '80s old school and usless you are built like Arnold S and sprint like Phil Anderson I would not be overly concerned about them.

you need to thread the housing in from the stem end and 'fish' it out with a spoke

PS some stems have a small 'set screw' looking thing to help open them

PSSS check your thread about greasing the clamp and see the instructions about using the clamp bolt to spread the clamp

I can't speak to the stem clamp problem, as I have gone to more modern stems with a removeable faceplate. For the housing though, I had to 'fish' one through my frame on a build. I used a cable (brake in my case) to get it done. Run the cable backwards (to the direction you want to run the housing), then slide the housing over the cable, and it should go through with no problem, other than maybe having to work it out through the hole, a little.
