Spindle Purchase

I have never bought a bottom bracket before. I need one with a 110mm, J.I.S spindle.
I looked at the Hope bottom bracket and liked it. Much to my surprise, it does not come with a spindle! (scratches chin). Where do I go from here? Are there compatibility issues, specs, availability issues I need to know? I would not even know where to look for a spindle.

I assume you are looking at the external bearing cups. These are used with cranksets that have the spindle integral to the spider. Won't work with your crankset. Just get a Shimano UN54 or something similar with the proper threading (assuming yours is English), shell width (68 for road bikes), spindle length (110mm in your case) and J.I.S. interface (the most common of the square tapers).

Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

If you have a classic square taper crankset and cups, I have a 110mm SR spindle for you. Cost is $9.00 including postage within the USA.

To make sure you get the correct spindle read the letter and numbers stamped between the bearing races. It'll be in a format N-3t or D-5ss or the like. If you replacing an existing spindle with a shorter one, read the numbers of the original.

Thanks, CA. FB, I'll be in touch. Give me a couple weeks to work on getting the B.B. shell first. I appreciate it.
