Looking for a particular sticker removal thread

Hi all,
I seem to remember a thread where someone recommended removing stickers by coasting them with something, wrapping that part of the frame in plastic, letting it sit for awhile, and then very easily peeling the sticker off. But all I can find now is page after page of heat, scrape with something plastic, then remove any residue with WD-40.
Can anyone shed some light on the wrap-and-wait technique?

I've worked in body shops doing paint and body work so I have often removed decals. I use a heat *** (hair dryer will work) to soften adhesive. Then using a plastic scraper I pull up an edge and peel it off. Then I use acetone (90% rubbing alcohal may work depending on adhesive) to remove adhesive. Saturate a section of rag with acetone and hold it against adhesive for a minute or two and it should rub off pretty easily.

dabac - what bike is it? I bought a new 2011 Surly Cross Check and had watched videos with these people scraping with the edge of a credit card, etc. it took forever. I, on the other hand, took some regular masking tape (the beige paper type), pressed it onto the decal (they're not clear coated) firmly, then quickly pulled the tape off at an angle (sort of like waxing hair on your body). Anyway the decals came right off. Took about 2-3 times for entire decal.

Quick, simple, non messy. Good luck.

It's a brand named "REX", and it's old enough to have 7-speed and still be mid-prized back in the day. You're unlikely ever to have seen one, it wasn't a big brand.

...I have no knowledge of that technique, and have always used a heat *** with success.

However, I do know that I have much better luck searching this forum with Google, using terms that include the subject and Bike Forums, than with the forum search function.

I've removed decals from several recent bikes and wheelsets without the first problem. I tried to remove them from Cheryl's old MTB and gave up. I didn't search as to why they wouldn't come off, just attributed it to age and fossilization.

I have used an hair dryer on some and vandal spray gel on others. Both work very well depending on the sticker type.

Thank for your effort. But this a painted frame - not bare Ti - so I'm a bit hesitant to use anything with the word "paint remover" in the product name. Trying to reduce work - not increase it

I think I'll just wet a rag with whatever degreaser or solvent I have around, place it over a decal, wrap the wole thing in saran wrap, leave it on for a while and see what happens. There's top tube, down tube, seat tube and rear fender. Room for some experimenting.
