Just got a 2014 Madone 4.3, with 105 components. I'm trying to determine which model number of each component so I can download the manuals. When I go to shimano website there are several numbers listed for each 105 component but nothing to indicate which model I may have and no way to enter a serial number to get a "build sheet" to borrow a term from the car world. I can't find any numbers on the bike itself.

Am I missing something?

Did you save a link to your bike's website? The details /specs tab on the page will provide the model number. It's 10-speed, right? That's 105 5700.

The letters each component is proceeded by hints of its name. EG BB 5700 is a bottom bracket.

Unless you have a very specific need having the manual for each component is a waste of time. If you know how to adjust any derailleur/brake, etc. it's not a great leap to do another. Fine if you just want to know for the sake of it, but it's certainly not necessary. For decades upon decades such information was not even easily available to shops, let alone consumers.

Bottom brackets can get confusing with the dozens of types over the years, so looking at pictures of yours might be useful if you plan to take it apart, and need to get a specific puller or other tool first.

Shimano components have their model numbers engraved on them so a bit of looking around should locate them. Cranks have it on the inside of each arm, rear derailleurs on the back of the inner parallelogram link, brakes on the back side of the arm the cable anchors in, etc.
