Let's See 'Em : 26" MTB/BMX Cruiser Conversions

I'm in the process of building a single speed 26" BMX style cruiser. This is just a "on the cheap" project for myself to cruise and not do any actual BMX riding.
Looking for pics of converted MTB, or other, to BMX style cruisers. What parts did you use?

My project deatails so far:
Diamondback Sorrento Cromoly frame
Vintage blue 26" x 2.125 HE Ukai Rims laced to high flange blue SR hubs. 5 speed freewheel has been removed.
Unknown brand MX 7/8" Handlebars 29" wide. Need 22mm - 25mm shims
Using original V brakes and brake levers. May change levers to a contasting color (Red?)

On order are:
Blue grips.
18T rear freewheel.
Blue brake lever sleeves
MOHEGIA Brown sidewall 26 x 2.125 Cruiser Tires - Order cancelled

Parts needed:
Chain
BMX top load stem
1X crankset. What would be a good chainring tooth count? 44, 46??? Open to sugestions with the 18T rear.
Saddle
Pedals
Browsing craigslist and marketplace BMX bikes as a cheap alternative to getting handlebar, stem, pedals, saddle.

I'm interested in how your project turns out!
I bought my wife a Devinci MTB with XS frame on 26" wheels over a decade ago. She prefers riding her Road bike so I've been thinking about converting it into a "BMX" bike.

I know it doesn't look like much but this project has been on the back burner lately. Got to find something to do while it's 105*F out...
Added grips, pedals, the rear wheel has been converted to a single speed, and added the brakes. I measured out the chain too. I think I may take off the front and just have rear brakes though. The tan wall tires I ordered never got shipped so I had to cancel the order. On the hunt for tires now. I want to find a top load BMX stem also

Last pic

Current pic. (Slowly getting there.)

You can probably find a top-load 1" threaded stem on garbage day if you drive around.

It's probably 15-30min to get that running as is - put a couple tires on, slap a rear brake lever & cable on there and go.

Good luck with your project.

Bikes: A couple old Schwinn Cross bikes , couple Specialized , a few Cruisers

I know this is an old thread that I came upon during a search for mountain bike bmx conversions .
A couple BMX cruisers I’m working on . They’re never finished

A few changes since I said "finished for now". Seat, pedals, handlebar. I picked up a dumpster save BMX bike and plan on adding the BMX cranks. Just need to order the threaded BMX Euro bottom bracket kit to use the cranks.

Browsing Amazon for the Euro bottom bracket to do my conversion and decided to take the easier/cheaper way. I picked up a square taper single crankset. I know, Chinese but it's just a casual cruiser. Simple pop on/pop off. It should arrive Sunday....

Did you lace that Brooks yourself or did it come like that?

I got this one rideable this morning.
I think I like it the best . Seems to be the perfect size . Just feels like a bmx bike .
I took the Box bmx bars off my Hardrock and put my mustache bars back on it . It didn’t feel quite right .
I’d been wanting to find a use for this set of wheels . The rear has a 21 tooth White Industries freewheel. Sounds sweet when coasting .

So..turns out, Not so simple. Started to pull the crank arm on the non drive side. Found the threads already damaged. Tried to use the tool and the rest of the threads pulled out of the crank arm.
I haven't tried the drive side yet. I'm going to presume it is going to fight me as well.

This week I acquired an old Trek 800 MTB that I converted using a coaster brake wheelset I already had .
I removed the heavy steel parts except for the seatpost . It’s a 26.6mm and hard to locate at a decent price . I’ve ordered a shim to allow me to use a 25.4 post .
I have a red and a green coaster brake set of wheels , so I can easier swap out the color scheme if I want .
The bike looks grey in the picture but it’s actually silver .
At my age it’s all about making the hills easier to climb and skinny tires and low gears help .
This one spins out around 12mph .
The chain is a little looser than I prefer but I haven’t dropped the chain yet and it’s quiet and smooth pedaling.

I am replacing my collection of Electra Cruisers with these BMX conversions .
The pedal forward design of the Electra bikes was messing up my knees .

Worked on the bike this evening. Got the cranks off. Drive side came off with the removal tool. The other side required use of a sledge and a pickle fork due to the stripped threads.
Got the single installed, dropped a couple of links on the chain, installed a different set of pedals, and she's good to go.

Sweet looking ride .
I had trouble removing the bottom bracket on the Trek 800 . Ended up buying a longer bolt and large washer to screw into the axle to hold the bottom bracket tool firmly in the bb . After soaking with PB blaster overnight, I was able to unscrew the bb using a large crescent wrench.
when working on these old bike , it’s always something that holds you up .
Makes it that much more satisfying once you get done with it and take that first ride .

Can't believe it took me this long to discover the joys of swept back risers plus a super plush seat.

I reworked my black MTB/BMX cruiser today .
This is my game day bike , the bike I ride on Saturdays, weather permitting before watching the UGA Bulldogs .
I swapped out the wheelset for a red coaster brake set of wheels . And upgraded the front V brake to a set of Shimano v brake arms .
Box handlebars.
Running a 32 tooth chainring with a 22 tooth rear cog .
