Help with Motobecane(?) value
Hi all! I have kind of a mystery frameset on my hands. I've been told by a buddy it's an old motobecane grand jubilee. It looks like it may have been repainted at one point, though it does seem to be well done. However it looks to have been used so it's a little gunky and has some paint chips. It's got what looks to be nervex lugs, a specialized(?) headset, and a neato looking sugino BB. It also has campy rear dropouts. It weighs 7.5~ pounds for the frame, fork, headset, and BB. It's a 59cm top tube from center to center. The seat tube measures 63cm from center to top. Would any of y'all have any idea on value or any corrections on any of my observations? If so I'd love to hear it! Thanks!

Hello Shamusftw,
t'is the proverbial "tin o' worms" as it presents one problem after another.
first it looks more like a grand record model.
its fork is not original. appears to be a generic replacement fork from japan, likely produced by tange. you can check the faces of the fork ends for a name - that is likely what you will find.
it has been the recipient of a respray, that hurts its value to anyone who would be interested in it for its "motobecane-ness".
whenever an enthusiast sees a frame with a replacement fork that is a red flag as they wonder "why was the fork replaced?" "has it been in a crash?" "does the frame have hidden damage?"
it has been "worked on" beyond just the respray.
the bottom bracket non drive side derailleur cable guide is broken.
its value would be to someone who "just wants a bike to fix up."
and fixing up is definitely the order of the day!

Hiya Juvela!
I gotcha. I only bought the bike for the cool handlebars so I guess I'll donate the frame or post it on cl for 50 bucks or something. Thanks for replying!

Definitely French threaded. Workmanship is typical of a mass produced model. Long Campagnolo dropouts with eyelets and absence of spring tension hole suggests mid-1970s. I haven't see any Motos from this era with a fully sloping crown fork, though I suspect a replacement based on the stiffener tangs. Top tube cable tunnels and shifter bosses would also be atypical for Moto of this period. While these could be additions, it begs the question why they didn't add a set of bottle bosses at the same time? Finally, it doesn't have the plethora of serial numbers typical of Motos. Still, the Campagnolo dropouts suggest at least mid-range with at least high grade tubing for the main triangle. I'd expect metric tubing and a 26.4-26.6mm seat post.

Verktyg has written that while this lug pattern is similar to many NERVEX combinations it is a custom which is proprietary to MB.

Agreed, the horns on the front of the lugs are finer and pointed on the standard Nervex Pro, as opposed to the thicker, blunt ended horns on the version used by Moto.

Ah I see! Thanks everyone for your replies! Was just wondering if it was worth posting it online for sale or just dump it at a collective. I only bought it cause it had these super sexy handlebars.
This is really what makes me think its a motobecane.

Thank you!
T-Mar & I know its a Motobecane because of the proprietary lug pattern with which it is built.

hope did not sound too negative.
it is your item and you should do with it as you see best.
have no ideas regarding appraisal. too long away from buying/selling bicycles & parts.
