'71 Nishiki Kokusai

Still in great and mostly original shape including decals, gears, stirrups, chain, front rim, bars, brake and gear levers. Original silver in very good shape. Must be around 58-60cm. Ridden @ 1,000mi in last year. Heavy but smooth ride. Got any idea of it's value?

Not without quality pictures. Heavy? Not a good sign value wise.

Does it look anything like this? I don't know what year it was but it was filthy when I got it. Cleaned it up and sold it for $100 IIRC. It was heavy but rode decent.

Check the dates on your components. THere's no such animal as a 1971 Nishiki. They did not change the name to Nishiki until 1973. Maybe a late 72, but no 71s. It's either a newer bike or an American Eagle.

Rocco it comes complete with a metal Nishiki crest and the Kokusai decal on the frame. There is a sticker low on the frame that says 'Produced for American Eagle'. I bought it in the spring of '72 so was assuming it was in production in late '71.

The Kokusai became the International shortly after the change from American Eagle to Nishiki. I had one back then, for the time it was a pretty nice ride. It was heavy, but very well made. It was the second from the bottom of the line, above the Olympic.

I would not estimate the value to be terribly high. I purchased a Nishiki Competition, the next model up in the line a couple of years ago for $150, I tried to sell it a year or so ago for $200 and found no takers.
