How Did I Do? 1985 Bianchi Piaggio
When I saw the bike posted, the owner didn't provide much information, and I couldn't find much on the internet. I did find a reference to a 1985 Bianchi Piaggio that was red with a chrome fork in Bike Forums. The individual said that he paid $300 Canadian for his bike. I decided that I would pursue the bike. When I first saw it, I was disappointed--it was much heavier than I expected. The bike had a heavy frame and steel rims. Also, the sticker said made in Taiwan (I wanted Italian). But despite the negatives, I decided to purchase it. The bike was in very good condition and clean. The owner wanted $200 but settled for $150. When I had a chance to ride it later that evening, I really enjoyed it. I've decided to keep it for my local commuter. The frame tells me very little so any infomation would be helpful. But did I make a good purchase? How would you assess it value?

Hi bikemanbob!
I think this is a good looking bike - and as a keeper, worthy of doing a few upgrades:
1) If you already like the ride, just get some alloy rims, and you'll REALLY like the ride.
2) Since it's time to replace the OE silver housings anyway, install some DT shifters. (White housing would be my 1st choice to accent the red frame.)
3) Swap out the rear DR with something Suntour - Cyclone, V-gt or even a Blue-line. (While you are at it remove the dork disk.)
^ Doing this will make it look -and feel- like a much more expensive bike.

nice Bianchi, what is the model name (or partial name) on the toptube?
I agree if you are keeping her and sprucing her up get some DT shifters and I recomend these; https://cgi.ebay.com/SUNTOUR-MIGHTY-S...item2c59a262b4
Auchencrow said alloy rims but I am sure you realize he meant wheels.
I believe what you have ther is a '84 Strada with a replacement fork and some upgrades on brakelevers and crank or they [levers/crank] could have been a line chain at the factory.
should make a dandy commuter

Thanks BianchiGirl for the recommendations! I can find no other indentifying labels other than Bianchi and Piaggio. Your help is appreciated.

A few days after buying the Bianchi, I found a 1990 Trek 1000 for $75 on CL. Of the two, the Trek was the better buy. I decided to reduce my numbers by selling the Bianchi. For what it is worth, I sold it for $180. A father bought the bike for his son. He was very excited to buy it. Although I didn't make any money (considering time and gas expense), I was happy that the bike went to someone who would appreciate it.
