A local shop where? US? Canada? UK? Europe somewhere?
Is those two pics all the info we get? What does it say across the top tube (the horizontal tube running from the handlebars to the seat). The shifters look like friction type and judging from the bolt on rearwheel I guess it is a lowerend bike. If I knew for sure it was a US market bike I might say a Ross or maybe a St Tropez.

I never heard of it but that means little. You bought it new from a bike shop? It looks pretty lowend to me, maybe it was a line sold by one of the shops suppliers that didn't have a major line. Jamis kind of started that way. Univega also used to have a cheaper side line called Sterling and trek had one too called Jazz.

Bikes: 86 Katakura Silk, 87 Prologue X2, 88 Cimarron LE, 1975 Sekai 4000 Professional, 73 Paramount, plus more
Lower end store brand bike. Except for a few special exceptions, even the LBS branded MTBs from that era have minimal value. The value in a bike like this is riding it and enjoying it. Vintage MTBs get no respect from buyers (I love them, but can't get squat for them).
I think they represent tremendous value for the average recreational rider, or for commuters as well. But the market does not agree with me.

Please don't confuse ebay "asking" prices with "selling" prices. Many sellers never get their ask price. some are far from it. Value is determined once an item actually SELLS. Its easy enough to check SOLD prices.

I know its a low end bike. I just couldnt find any info on it. Im looking to get something else, but Im going to keep this one. It just rides too good to give it away to somebody. Lots of memories with this bike, been lots of places with it. Rode dirt bikes for 35+ years, along the way I bought this to keep my legs in good working order.

The bicycle was manufactured by Ming Tien Hang, a Taiwanese company. They started contract manfacturing of bicycles in the mid-1970s and brought out their MT Racing brand circa 1982. They were known primarily for their BMX bicycles. By the 1990s production had shifted back primarily to contract manufacturing and circa 2000 manufacturing was shifted to a new factory in Vietnam.
