Campagnolo Record Hubs
Hello,
Was looking for some more details on these presumably 70's Record (?) hubs. Age, title (Campy Record High flange hubs etc..), and approx. value. Thanks!

The best place to check value on a hubset like this that trades a lot is sold listings on ebay.
EDIT: found one HiLo sale @ $168.50 (rear only)
The year is usually easily determined by unscrewing the hub lock nut and looking on the inside surface. (Changed to the outside sometime in the 80's). Based upon the skewers, anyway, those will be '78 or later.
EDIT: Oops, I didn't catch that these were HiLo's. Accrding to velobase, those were early 80's. Your date code may be visible on the outside of the locknut.
Actual final value will depend on the quality of the bearing surfaces inside the hub, spoke hole distortions, as well as a clean outer appearance. Those give an appearance of being laced up twice already.

Many ebay sellers list the skewers separately from the hubs, I assume they do that to increase their sale proceeds.
On ebay I've paid as little as $30 for a Nuovo Record small flange front hub, previously spoked, and as much as $75 for a NOS Nuovo Record small flange front hub, never spoked but no box. Neither included a skewer, which can go for as much as $50 pr. for used ones in good, rust free condition.

how does one depict the quality of the bearing surfaces?
These are incredible hubs. I got them from a patient of mine who's husband passed in the mid 80's. These hubs had sat since then. When she gave them to me, they were still laced up (to some shot tubeless rims), and I was amazed how smoothly the hubs spun. I guess that's why these have held their value after all of these years.
Also, still having difficulty finding date code. What format should I be looking for?

So the rear one would be called a HiLo? the front would just be High Flange?

To depict the bearing surfaces in pictures, the only way is to disassemble enough to show that there is no wear on the cone.

Are they a matching set? Rear looks to be 32h while the front is 36h. Rear spoke holes look to be in considerably worse condition than the front.
As they sit about $75. If you open then up to inspect the bearing races and verify the cones and races are in good condition and clean them up real nice maybe upwards of $200....if they're a matching pair.
