Installation Problems on a PR-10

So I ordered up my compenets for my PR-10 and i have gotten around to installing them this last weekend... I got the old 73 Criteruim RD off... The mounting bolt goes through a hole drilled through the rear drop out hangar (threadless) and screws into the back of the RD. The new RD (a Shimano RD 6400) has a threaded shaft that I assume is supposed to screw into the drop out hangar. Is there an adapter that I can use? The drop out hangars are fixed on my PR-10.

The hole in the hanger has to be tapped and the hanger has to be reshaped to form a stop.

Don't do it if you care about the collector value of the PR-10. Get a Simplex that will fit with no modification.

Bikes: A green one, "Ragleigh," or something.

^ That's it in a nutshell; you got two different systems that were never meant to work together. I first ran into this when I started refurbing my brother in law's 1979 PKN10. You can modify it, or stick with an old Simplex RD.

Interesting -- I do not recall having any problem hanging a SunTour Cyclone II on my 1980 PKN-10 and later reinstalling the original Simplex when I gave the bike to my son. Different Simplex, perhaps? If I recall correctly, 1980 was the year Peugeot changed to Swiss BB threading; did they change other stuff, as well?

A Campagnolo Rally or Shimano Crane will work if you just tap the hole. You don't need to create a stop for them.

I did manage to get the all the components installed onto my bike. With a careful hand, I got the threads tapped into the hangar nicely and I got the new RD+FD-6400 installed along with a new SRAM chain. The bike shifts quite nicely and I am looking forward to taking it for a ride this week. I am defintely curious to know if the new 14-28 freewheel is enough to help me climb some of the hills for my centuries I want to participate in. First one I am going to try to do is Tour Des Chutes.

Bikes: Too many to list here check my signature.

I am not expert on those funky Simplex dropouts but I don't think it will be shifting nicely for very long without a stop for the B tension screw.

yes.

my '80 pkn10 derailleur hanger was threaded with a stop. it allowed me to use campy nr.

my '73 pr10 was not. i used a nut behind the hanger with a simplex rd.
