Why C&V bikes are better than carbon fiber

Carbon-fibre bicycles in the frame for rising number of injuries

When was the last time someone broke a vintage aluminum Klein, Cannondale or a Steel Cinelli, Olmo, Pinarello, Merckx, Masi, etc. in a crash that contributed to an INCREASE the injuries sustained.

Curious who amongst our C&Vers have suffered injuries in a group ride pile-up due to someone else's carbon bike shattering or breaking. Do share. I think we've all been a part of some doofus bringing down a pace line because they tried to ride on TT extensions, that doesn't count. I'm talking just regular crashes where someone on carbon rims or a carbon frame broke their bike and that contributed to others being taken out or where someone sustained injuries because of the broken carbon? A carbon frame fragment through the arm or something.

I have not suffered injuries, or experienced a crash on a carbon fibre bicycle, however; to me they are just another form of plastic. And I hate plastic! When I see damaged carbon fibre bikes, I immediately think of the previous bicycle industry plastic break through - Dupont's Delrin Plastic...

What I can say about carbon fibre bicycles is based on personal experience. Though not a lot have come my way, I have seen several broken carbon fibre fork sets, each of which sported a snapped of drop on one side or the other. One can only imagine what happened one nano second after the plastic failed.

Will I ever buy a plastic bicycle? Not at this time and thank goodness someone somewhere has the courage to let others know what is going on.

I understand they just explode without warning, obliterating the rider and witnesses. That's why we don't have any first hand accounts.

That would require me to go on group rides. Been a few years since I did that.

Even then, the only instant catastrophy that I witnessed was a vintage tubular rim that became the poster image for chaos in about a quarter second. (rider only experienced minor scrapes, and miraculously didn't trigger a chain reaction) Fortunately it was his rear wheel that bit it.

In this case I think the technical term is "asplode," not "explode."

I do believe "assplode" is the correct spelling.

And it is absolutely true because that is the first part that gets the crabon fiber shaft. Aliens were the first to use this method in their abductions.

Why sticking your finger into an electric pencil sharpener whilst listening to Nicky Minaj is better than reading the first two lines of a mtbike post (which is undoubtedly further than most get).

Correct.

Topic has been hashed to death around here.

Weak and tired.

If you don't like CF, don't ride it.

So simple.

I thought this was going to be a bad thread which belonged in the road cycling forum where they love this stuff but it's gotten a lot better with posts on Nicky Minaj, assploding, Kelly take-offs, and cat pics,

or another lecture on the difference of rotational inertia between configurations of wheel diameters, frame size and material (specifically AL), and body weight and height and its impact on the ability to ride hands free.

Crabon fibre is preferred to an ST1000. I'd rather have my frame explode, embedding crabon fibres into my cornea, than ride 50 miles on a bone jarring 1st gen, tigwelded aluminum bike.

Nah, when I test rode a Klien in 1975, I knew this was the future of criterium racing.
All in their places.

I like the top tier carbon frames today. But I am too cheap to spend that much on say a Look 795 or Colnago C60.
