Concorde vs. Concord part II

Hey people,

So I have a question about this particular bike: Steel Vintage Bikes - Concorde PDM World Cup 1988 Vintage Racing Bike

The seller claims all paint and decals are original, and i do believe them. I actually think it's a Concorde Gavina (check Italian flag panto on the top tube, Columbus dropouts ect.). The paintjob is very unique and you can tell that somebody put a lot of effort in it.

As the owner of the bike I would really love to know why it says "Concord" instead of "Concorde" on the head tube and down tube. Does anyone of you happen to know? I've been looking for an answer to this question a long time now. In fact it does say "Concorde" on the seat tube...

Thanks a bunch!

best,

Josh

interesting,

wish i had more information for you besides my own experience with a similar issue. the first steel road bike i bought turned out to be an 80's Concord Pro II (with no e on the end). when i asked around in some forums, all i got was info for Concorde (with an e). turns out there are two companies with similar names. it is weird that the bike in question has both spellings in the decals. i'm sure some concorde fans would have more specific info, but have fun with the similar names.

fwiw, my understanding is that the concorde (with an e) was a pretty good bike. the concord (without an e) was pretty bottom of the line. figures i was scraping the bottom of the barrel as usual! have fun!

Headscratcher. Definitely a Concorde with an e. Maybe there was a trademark issue and this pre-dates the cease and desist.

Looks to me like a skilled painter partially repainted it, and didn't get the Concord"e" part right. Notice it's correct on the back of the seattube where you can see the PDM graphic. Could be damaged around steerer tube and was partially repainted for that reason, or paint was just really bad up there and not so bad on rest of bike. The brazed on flag should have the Italian flag colors of green, red, and white painted in. Still could be a great bike. This is a Concorde, but there is a Concord which is a Japanese "campus" quality bike from the 80's.

Definitely a Concorde, I think AngryFrankie is right about what has happened with this bike! Logo and font on down- and head tube are not right. It's the original lettering on seat stay and seat tube. On the head tube it should either be the concorde "bird" logo, or the lettering as represented on the back of the seat stay.

There is also the "Concorde" SST airliner.... which was certainly still around and flying when the bike was built, but I guess they did not mind sharing their plane's name with a bicycle company.....
