Nice 54cm MV Ironman. What crankset and brake levers are those?

New member here posting on my recently acquired Centurion. This is a 1985, and I will be posting pics soon. My understanding is that I need 10 posts before I have picture privileges. Perhaps if pics wanted soon, I could email to someone. Serial number is KE511628. At first I thought it was KF, but close inspection looks like a light strike and therefore KE.

My seat post is definitely a Sugino fluted 27mm. Data base shows this on the 86, just as do the DiaCompe AGC aero brake levers that are on it. Just wondering if some new parts could have got phased in on the 85 bike or an unfinished bike was completed in a new year.

Both of these components have patina that would match the rest of the bike. I would agree that the Aero levers might have had a reason to be replaced on this bike, as it also came to me with some aero bars for a racing riding position. I can't however see any reason why someone would switch out the seat post to the next year. It just seems curious.

Purchased last fall, and adding to the data base. I believe it was nearly original. I took off some aero bars that were on it also. I did switch out the 42t biopace chainring for a 39t, and took off a water bottle holder. Computer, bag, mirror, pump and tape added also. I think the Dia Compe levers maybe came on it stock as the patina matches, and on one lever the AGC lettering is worn off. On the Ironman paint job thread, half the 85s seem to have the Dia Compe aero levers also.

What cassette was OEM on the 1989 Masters, UG (uniglide) or HG (hyperglide)?

When we were compiling the IM info when this thread started, we came up with Uniglide 13-14-15-17-19-21-24T 7 speed cassette, although RT has it as HG on page 1. So not really sure how we came up with UG

I always thought the Carbon Ironman came with tricolor 6400 group and the Carbon R cane with Dura Ace. However, the information contained herein says opposite. I could almost swear it was Dura Ace on the Carbon R. I'm looking in my magazines to find evidence of either way. Does anyone have the article or ad?

the carbon r was cheaper tha carbon ironman so definitly dura-ace on ironman and tricolor on carbonr however what is weird is i could have sworn there was a diffent decal/bike for the australian and possibly asian market for carbon r compared to carbon r model stateside.

wheras my carbon shows date of late 88. hwever there is a carbon i have seen of date of 87! so it is a model they must have planned for a while and tweaked a few things. I think the decals with more yellow were for aussie market and the decals with more reddish pink for US. The Ironman Carbon was DA, and a lot of folks cannibalized those bikes for the DA, but often left the headset. I bought one that was OEM and it was full DA; I traded the group from it for facilitation and free shipping. He got the group, I got the frame/fork/headset/seat post.

I've never seen a Carbon-R that was not 6400. I'm guessing a full DA kit by then was cost-prohibitive, just as with the '89 Prestige. My Carbon-R is a 1991 model, Asian market, and the decals are more '89 and subdued. The purple/white Turbo is a German Centurion, made in Japan, and either had some permission to use the fonts and logo, or didn't and used it, anyway.

I have one of those purple/white Turbos, and an '84 Turbo (black and silver). When I get them done, I'll show them here.

I still say those swoopy framed "Centurions" need a banana seat with sissy bar and swept back bars or ape-hangers. Fastest rat rod in town.

I saw that red Equipe on eBay and made BF my next stop!

Per the 1985 catalog, it only came in silver. The 85 also had two water bottle cage mounts, whereas this red frame only has it only on the downtube. I've seen a smattering of pictures of red, dark blue and light blue purported Equipes here and there over the years. I wonder if this was some off-catalog thing, like the Turbo funny bike frames, or if they came out of Asia or Europe.

Red one is interesting. Seller being a bit inaccurate about how 'original' to the first owner the components are (DA RD is at least late 90's), and one has to assume that the rear hub is either 7403 or 7700 if it matches the front hub, because there's a HG lockring on the cassette. Appears to be a fairly workmanlike set of components with Exage shifters (no problem there, I use them on my Bottecchia with the same RD) and what appear to be long reach 6207 brake calipers. Can't tell what the brake levers are, might be 1051 like the FD. Good tires on it, too. All in all, interesting.

The blue one...meh. Poor pics, low number of ratings, a dent, etc. I'd pass on that one.

I believe they were made in Italy, though, as was the Equipe. I think neither of them are Equipe models. The Equipe is basically the silver model offered in the catalog, with an Italian mix of components, but Campy only on the shifters, FD, RD.

These both appear to be the "Project" bikes, which are reported to have been marketed via Bikeology. They have the Cinelli logos on the seat stays, and fork crowns, and were very likely made by Chirico in Bussero, Italy (outskirts of Milan) prior to the Equipe production run.

I had one of those, didn't llike the bio pace chain rings.
