Wow, poor mtnbke. He must feel like Hillary at the Benghazi hearings.

But I would expect a very, very long reply one day soon.

I doubt he's into feigned indignation, readily apparent on both sides.

He would probably "answer the $%#@& question."

One side's trying to get mileage out of asking.
One side's trying to get mileage out of not answering.
$4.7 million later.

One of the leadership practices taught to plebes, at least at the Naval Academy, is accountability.
When asked a question, there are 3 answers: Yes. No. I'll find out. We could use that in the gummint.

Given the voluminous fact-free rhetoric I'd identify him more with Trey Gowdy, not Hillary.

You don't need to be a plebe to follow that advice. I learned that a long time ago. it applies to everything.

That is a refreshing post!

Years ago I found this cool cover of "Nothing But Flowers," which is my Talking Heads favorite. I know nothing else about this band, Motet.

The sentiment in the song is approximately how I feel about leather saddles.

Dig.

You mean to tell me that someone else out there thinks that Tom Cody is one of the greatest heroes of all time? That Ellen Aim is the hottest female rocker of all time? That is one of my favorites along with The Warriors. The beat down that Tom puts on The Road Masters is a classic. Awesome!

Yep. Neither of them run very deep on credibility. Or leadership, for that matter.

What, you didn't fight with steel-handled sledgehammers in school? :roflmao2:

In the Marines, we used those to pound tent stakes all over the world. They were universally hated, because we couldn't break them.
When they showed up with those in the movie, the whole theater groaned. Some guy yelled, "run, they're gonna make you put up a tent!"

There are a lot of well-known folks in that movie, uncredited, just hanging out. I think Billy Vera and the Beaters was one of the bar bands.

The classic damsel in distress movie, wandering hero coming home to save the day, and moving on. Shane in Brooklyn.
Dafoe is a walking ghoul in that movie. The suspenders, rubber hip waders, sunken cheeks. Each side only had one intelligent person.

The house band in the movie at Torchys was The Blasters. The go go dancer was the Flashdance double. Here are the Blasters with a nice live version of Dark Night.

I sent my son the movie Streets of Fire (Diane Lane, Willem Dafoe, Michael Pare, Virginia Madsen, Rick Moranis).
He said his college friends were glued to the screen. Finally, one said "Oh, it's like a comic book."

thanks for reminding me of this one.....have to have the kid (almost 18) look at this one. He finally watched the Blues Brothers.

My all time favorite live album is Jimmy Reed at Carnegie Hall. Bigbossman took his screen name from a song on that album, but that's not why it's my favorite.

My all time least favorite is the Rolling Stones' Aftermath. Unlistenable.

The live concert I enjoyed the least: The Beatles at the Hollywood Bowl. Couldn't hear anything but screaming girls and could barely see them from the cheap seats.

I enjoyed Jimmy Hendrix at an old movie theater in long Beach the most. Awe inspiring, especially Red House.

Frank Zappa and the Mothers and Alice Cooper at some Orange County junior college was a close second. Frank was downright verbally abusive of the audience and we loved it.

Big Brother at the Shrine Auditorium was memorable. I saw the Mothers there, too. That one was bizarre, but that may have been attributable to something I took. It was the sixties.

Whatz ya'll think of dat cyclone Patricia?

iab 10-23-15 05:07 PM

ummmm....

No Live At The Apollo?

Philistines.

Best live show was a tie. Clarence Gatemouth Brown or Zappa (had 2nd row center) or Art Ensemble of Chicago.

bikingshearer 10-23-15 05:45 PM

My candidate for best live album in the Rock or Pop category would be Deep Purple's "Made in Japan." Dem guys wuz tight.

Perhaps my all-time favorite cover is Annie Lennox doing "Whiter Shade of Pale."

I've had a run-in or two with the OP in the past.

I like Selle San Marco Rolls Titanio saddles, but a steel-railed one will do in a pinch.

Those four pieces of info should be enough to scare off anyone from wanting to know me better.

Really? Sweet. I think I played there somewhere around '02/'03.

I was in a band- we played some shows in LA- OF COURSE I wanted to play at the Whiskey- but at some point you realize that place isn't "The Whiskey..." anymore. It's a place that charges bands $400 or so for the privilege of saying "we played at the Whiskey."

What I thought was interesting was out of the 3 places I played in LA, one of the great centers for rock in roll in America- no "cooler" than any place in Milwaukee, Madison, Chicago, Minneapolis... Sure, it's nifty to think you're playing on the same stage as *name of legendary rockstar* but, realistically- it's *A*stage at *A* bar.

Fair enough, and very true - any place that charges to play is not a place worth playing for the most part. Not to say that that wasn't done once or twice. FWIW (exactly nothing), some of my favorite gigs were private/house parties. Better atmosphere, the band(s) seemed to play better, more musical freedom, etc., etc. ...plus the after-parties were a blast. Good times.

Great tastes in music here - I learned a thing or two here.

The Mothers were a special kind of bizarre. Mud Shark. Right there.

That has one of my very favorite lyrics:

If this is paradise I wish I had a lawn mower.
