Some may remember me ranting as my avatar doesn't show on my computer, using Windoz Explorer. It does, however, show on my phone, using chrome. I was so excited to see it, that I tried Chrome on my computer - NADA. Beats me. However, I am curious, whether others can see my avatar. If so, what are you running?

I can't see your avatar on Chrome 47.0.some_numbers
I was hoping this would be about how you chose your avatar. In that case, I've had two since being on this forum: Boccioni's "Dynamism of a cyclist" and the barred owl.
I chose "Dynamism of a cyclist" after seeing it at the Guggenheim here in New York. However, it's abstract and hard to see in a small image. The barred owl attacked me on a run years ago. It's sort of a power animal for me, if such a thing exists. A friend called it epic, so it's staying for now.

Running Firefox 43.0.1 here and don't see your avatar.
When I look at your profile, though, there's a Raleigh decal.

Is this you?

Oh, that is just plain Ed, you are Ed-PERIOD.
When I go to "Page Info" in Firefox, I find:
www.bikeforums.net/avatars/ed-.gif?dateline=1419137293
Ahhh

Ok, I found the proper avatar file:

www.bikeforums.net/avatars/ed..gif
So the problem is that your username is Ed-Period, which is somehow being transformed into Ed-Dash.
I doubt there is anything that YOU can do to fix it other than changing your username to something different.
You can report it as a website bug.
I presume the system gives a bit different app when running on the phone.
You probably can't fix it, but a site administrator (above mods?) might be able to copy
www.bikeforums.net/avatars/ed..gif to www.bikeforums.net/avatars/ed-.gif

Clifford, we've been around on this before. I just thought it weird that it came thru on my phone, which uses chrome, but not on my computer, running chrome. I'm not going to loose sleep over it, nor harass anyone further, period LOL

I thought I remembered seeing that Raleigh earlier. Anyway, the problem has to do with your username.
You are apparently using the "mobile" version of the website on your phone. A while ago I disabled the mobile website and went to the "full version" on the phone. There were too many features that didn't work right. But, apparently your Avatar is the one feature that works properly.

I can safely say that I've not been lying awake worrying about it, but it is a curious situation. I kept scrolling down to see if anyone could show it. It is weird that the phone software shows it and not the all-powerful PC stuff. Maybe it's a sign, the matrix doesn't want anyone to see your avatar. Maybe it's a glitch. Maybe it's ....doom.

I love my avatar. I used to use it in my email signature, but that got kind of unwieldy.
It's Davey from Davey and Goliath. He got mad and he's punching out a kid. See? He's all mad and his hair is all messed up.

I have the same problem with the no show avatar. I seem to remember this issue being brought up before, and the general consensus was, the "Period" at the end of the user name. I thought ok, I'll remve the period, but I can't seem to figure out how to edit my user name?
Cheers,
Chris

We found a period-related glitch on another forum running on v-bulletin. When a thread title ended with multiple periods (dots), the thread would not roll over to a second page. As admins we had to edit those thread titles and ask members to not do the dot dot dot thing.

On my android phone, no avatar for Ed.
I believe you can request a moderator to change your user name. How about Ed (period)?

edit: Hopefully the name without the period isn't being used already. That would be the only reason I can think of why they wouldn't accommodate the request.

It isn't that computers are "stupid", rather they are very good at doing exactly what the programmer or end-user tells the to do. And, it is often a multitude of programmers, and administrators, and end users.
In this case, many of the symbols have special significance with file names.
Somebody chose to create avatar file names based on the user name, and also to parse the file names using a period (extension), for some reason.
Then all the testing ignored the case with user-names ending with a period.
And so, now 2 users have done the unexpected, and found a system bug. Just feel lucky it didn't cause a meltdown of the entire system.
