Zeus 2k rings and alloy hardware. Factory drilled but they show signs of handwork.

Onto the front derailleur. Well this one is a mess and best for the B.O.C.. I don't exactly recall whom I bought it from here but might have been part of a package, whatever. Thought it could have potential but after review, its far from the idea in drillium. It had caked grease and underneath part of it, an oxidized appearance. After a rough clean, noted the seized and sheared off limit screws. Worse, someone started on drilling them out. Oh well, I don't have time to tinker with this one.

With a look like this, she can have anything she wants

Here's the vinti Vito's. Hardly seemed they were glued on. Base tape is excellent.

I am using the Giro as a means of having the Pro Strada rideable now. When I get over paying for the things I got to build it, some better tubbies are forthcoming. The Giro work quite well as a placeholder, mileage and saddle time are my goals for now. But at 21.00 USD per tire, it was an inexpensive solution for my C&V ride jones.

You seem to have a good plan, I am hooked on following this build.

Oh, yes - I'd forgotten who that went to

I can relate (even recently) about mistakes being made with drillium. Even so, it adds to the "homemade" quality. Perhaps once I'd have decried mistakes as being a result of crappy planning, but in my recent case, it was a simple slip 'o the wrist. I'm okay with it

I'm truly looking forward to your self-modded bits. I always get a kick out of the stuff some of our members come up with. I've got a leather seat bag from @rootboy, a fabric tool roll-up from @Henry III - and someday I hope to own an @rhm custom saddle!

Very cool and fun project! Love the Zeus stuff and the weight weenie stuff of the era. Alloy freewheels are great for official weight measurement and actual competition.. any plans to put many miles on it?

By the way... I've got an aluminum stem bolt and expander cone that I think was intended for a Cinelli stem. A friend used to make this stuff back in the day, and I inherited some of his stuff. The thought of using an aluminum bolt on the stem just scares me, but maybe you can use it? I'll have to show it to you sometime....

^ Steve, thanks for piping in and yes to those cool little bits! Absolutely will be riding it plus some fun jumping in on Thurs. evening shootouts. Its not about how you place but going in style...ha. I don't plan on re-spacing the rear and will run 5 speed ally close clusters. Though to simplify and avoid swapping freewheels, will do wheelsets. Have another with Gipiemme copy Campy Record and tubular Nisi Laser's.

Indeed, all of you have a keen eye and most talented. I'm very appreciative, especially realizing all of the time you put into the smallest of details. Purely a labor of love. Great community here. BTW: There's a part of Rootboy's superlative work going on this one - hence Colnago Super!
Stay tuned

That reminds me, I have to figure out a way to safely mount my pair of Rootboys' Tire Savers on the Medici. These and the fantastic N.I.B. Regina Extra freewheel, are carrying the Rootboy signature onward through the NW Florida humidity and afternoon thunderstorms.

Oppps, if this gives away something, apologies to all.

Lunchtime upload. I'm taking the less is more approach and starting with this group of hardware. I'll let one guess what they are and used for. (A thank you to steelbikeguy!)

Bill, you mentioned Rootboy......... oh, man he does amazing work! I love having these little custom made parts. Not exactly sure I should mention, but consider the leather hoods for the Campy s.record levers unobtanium from him. They're beautiful and perfect. Even the packaging is all pro. Thank you rootboy!

Ah, neat parts. Rootboy of course does great work. The hoods age very well (the pair I got from him are on my Colnago, actually).

Doubt its era correct, but I dig the Italian made Elite cages. Only one set of bosses for this Colnago, so it gets just the one cage.

J.B. of Velostuf is the man for these and vintage Campy goodies.

Thats good to know. He did mention they'll darken and suggest a treatment of Proofide. The Cinelli criterium bars are leather wrapped and darker than the hoods, so would imagine in time all will match close enough. Though I'm a little concerned if caught in the rain.

Era Regina Record drilled chain. Used but not too stretched. There's better solutions, perhaps go new but this is partly about the character.

As mentioned, John B. at Velostuf is a terrific source for Campy. Not overly concerned what is exact to the year of the frame, I requested a DIY set of brakes and calipers with the engraved Campagnolo script. He came thru to exactly what I wanted. Couldn't be more pleased. A little TLC in scrape repair for one lever and then did a clean / service on the cal's. Have to appreciate the 'field' serviceable Campy parts using just a few tools I carry in my daily ride.

Camp. S. Record levers ready~

Next are the pedals. They came with this bike, one cap missing and the toe clips hacked off! Who does this?? At the least, they're not scuffed up and will service up nicely. Have replacement caps, fancy Colnago straps. On the hunt for aluminum toe clips. Normally wouldn't fuss with ally clips but with a minor weight weenie thing going, gotta have them.

Having recently taken a dive into my stash of toe clips and found a pair of nice ALE alloy clips, I can say that they seem quite nice. I seem to recall seeing some with bike brand logos too (not in my parts box, though).

So... does this imply that you will be riding vintage shoes with slotted cleats? That seems to be a rather rare thing, at least based on my limited observations at the Classic Rendezvous weekend.

thanks for the many photos documenting the build!

Steve in Peoria

p.s. I do have some MKS alloy clips that need a new home. Too small for me. Might be a medium?? Italian clips would be better for this project, but if you have a use for them, I'd be happy to move them out of my parts box.

Steve- Thanks for the offer but I'm avoiding far eastern labels.

Riding the cleats again on a fairly regular basis. Have a stash of various shoe cleats including blanks to cut. Have to remember to get the blue Loctite for the Brancales. The leather soles have just enough squeeze crush or moisture or temp change- probably allowed the screw to work loose. Had a screw drop out, making it a surprise floaty nuisance.

Those are the ones! I have to get mine mounted, they are on the workbench awaiting attachment to the Medici.

+1, John has some great Campag things available, I got some of my parts from him through eBay.

Very nice job on working out the gouges on the SR brake levers, I followed Drillium Dude's thread about filing out scratches and gouges to do my Campy Victory levers.

You did a nice job cleaning up those brake levers, and the leather hoods look super on them. Pedals also look in good shape, particularly for track versions. Re-pop caps are available for these, too, on Ebay.

It's coming along nicely. I wonder, though, how long you'll be keeping us in suspense before you finally let us have a peek at your own drillium work

DD

PS: I have one pair of Campy alloy clips. Email me if still looking.

Thanks for the kind words all. Should be able to kick it in gear next week. I've been only lucky enough to sneak a few moments in at a time. We've had grandkids coming and going, short trips - museum's and all the non-stop fun keeping us busy. My riding time is either way early dawn or by taking advantage of the longer daylight, get a late ride in.

Then this weekend has sort of planned into family time at Blackhawk Farms with the historic racers. One brother is crewing for a few other fellows cars. Blackhawk - VSCDA

Then my bro' in-law decided to track his '24 French mahogany and ally body boat tailed speedster. Its a show car but he wants to play as vintage boy racer. Rumor that tech was quit humorous. Required a few changes but he'll be out there. Just hoping he doesn't end up with a pile of splinters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hbzd7yPaG0U

I'm just going to sit back, enjoy the fumes and a few frosty's. Bicycles are such a simpler hobby
Have a safe and great weekend, Fathers day too
