Decided to keep the Campagnolo dt shift levers stock. Thought about drillium or the traditional Colnago pantograph type. If the latter, then would likely start on other pieces. The stock lever is iconic and forever a classic, so it stays.

But oddly it had two different back stop plates, one coated black and the other in chrome, both steel with guide. I cleaned the black off and have yet to polish it, but now closer to its mate chrome part.

Then, I ordered in back plates specific to Campy and thinking they would match the type as above. They're different without the guide and lightweight aluminum.

This is for braze-on. Are the lighter and simple aluminum back plates appropriate?
Ref. guide:

The stop plates without the guide started appearing in 1979 or so.
The reason I write that is that with stock on hand it took a long time for the old stock to get used up.
The black backing plates with guide were before chrome… 1970 or so was the beginning of the end for those.

Note, we would drill apart the clamps with guides to get most of the parts when converting a bike to braze on shifters when transferring parts from an older frame. A thick backing washer had to be brought in to the assembly. Those washers are dear now.

Your parts set appears to be a kludge. The plastic backing washer should be steel, plastic compression parts came later.

Thanks for clarifying, repechage. I'm confident the frame is a 1979-80 so will use the aluminum stop plates. Interesting about those steel washers. Never crossed my mind but thanks for bringing that up. Though will use a pair of nylon type on this build.

I figured from the onset the mixed Campy shift group it came with. Early 70's NR rear has a crisp appearing body and will retain, adding a mild dose of drillium styling on the cage only. Rebuilt the front SR with a blend of others on hand and best of parts.

Zeus 2k crank info. Road race, triple, cyclo-X, track.
Oddly, the inner ring has a slight darker, tinge of anodized bronze. Not very noticeable and will leave it.

On the right is the custom made replacement Cinelli stem bolt and conical wedge in aluminum. The original black is fairly light too but a smaller diameter. Haven't scaled them but curious what the original is made of. Not magnetic.

Originally was seeking the minimalistic G.E.L. 280 or Fiamme Ergal rims but most I found were worn out, rather rough and way over priced. For now decided on the late version GP4 tubulars. Well proven, robust and in excellent condition. They have a deep section brake surface, slightly squarish profile vs. the older version, coming in at 400 gm. An additional half pound for the pair, not quite weight weenie. Mavic decal of specs is going to be removed. Front as built 903 gm, rear -including- a Zeus 2000 ally 5 speed freewheel weighs 1,226 gm. That rear might go up even further when I swap out for a Regina Oro G.S. 6 speed 14-30T.

Thats the way it'll roll for now~

Btw, I measured the Campy medium clip and it appears too small for your stated needs. It's 55mm from pedal to clip emd and only about 60mm to the spot the toe would end up.

^Thanks for verifying Drillium Dude.

Some pics of scuzzy derailleurs before the work over. Into the silver look, no little black parts.
Rear dated '77, slight earlier than what I believe the frame is '79 or '80.

Note the typical cracked jockey wheel. Bullseye replacements. The bearing i.d. is larger and I usually bush down to fit stock, but this time will leave as is though will set low as possible in the cage. Then shim that small gap. Don't know if it'll make much of a difference but the idea is a small cheat on extending chain wrap for future large cog.

The aluminum pivot bolts are gems. Hope to get a chance today and get back with drilling on the rear.

Experimented with cable sheath colors. Didn't care for black, yellow clashed but then had a sample of clear. Liked it but was short of what I had available. So, on a whim had neutral light grey to try. I like it. Less is more look, no clash all business.

Punch list:
Rear derailleur work
chain
zing off loops from Brooks Swallow
Glue tires
Toe clips

Thanks Bill! This has been fun and sort of therapeutic. Thought I'd have it rolling by tonight but other taking precedent. Anyways, did sneak some time and finished my amateur job on the rear derailleur. Cramming is not the mindset when doing this. Snapped one drill bit.

Want to retain the original sheen of the aluminum and no high polish. Happened to have a can of aerosol brake cleaner and zapped all. Tooth brush and rag, done fast.

Also on the shelf was a can of a aerosol cleaner / wax for stainless steel, intended purpose for outdoor grills. Works great. Fast job for the shine.

Maybe later tonight will assemble the derailleur and for grins weigh it. Quite sure the Bullseye pulleys are heavier than OEM.

Vintage rubber is soooo fun! Giggling inside is my only description of them. This bike just eats the road breaks. The GP4 rims are rubust but yet a tad on the heavier side. No matter, its really a beautiful easy glider.

The 'Nago is looking very nice, seems to be coming together for you. Looking at your wheelset, I have those Mavic GP4 rims on my bike, I got some very well done re-pop labels off eBay, these are the red "MAVIC" and separate GP4 on gold foil. The seller is in France, and he makes a good number of re-pop decals, of high quality. He has the blue and yellow labels you have on your wheels, also. Just a heads up, if you want to get the little details done.

I'll be interested to read your post after the first ride.

Bill

Thanks for the heads up. At first was on the hunt for Mavic G.E.L. 280 or Fiamme Ergal but as mentioned earlier, couldn't find anything nice. These are a later GP4 having a bit taller side section. I pulled the decals off having the information / specs. And as you said, my mind is on going with the older red decal and gold foil GP4. I might just leave these until I find the right pair of G.E.L.

Only did a small shake down and tiny tweak on the front derailleur. The shifts are dialed in and flickity fast. Kind of reminds me of old school slap stick Hurst shifters. Smoothest Campy NR stuff I've felt in years or compared to a few other bikes I have. Most pleased.

No sprint yet but hit a few short inclines. Mildly concerned with the gearing and where I might take this ride. Can't say yet if theres some flexy in it but its something anticipated. Couldn't hammer either without foot retention.
