Rivendell also sells the blank bar-end pods for their silver shifters.

The pods are great, they're made by Diacompe-Ene.
They take any shifters that work on downtube braze on, which includes most vintage band shifters.
I have my old Zeus downtube levers from '78 on them

and back to the original question, the SunTour was the choice. They have the ratcheting mechanism (used in the current Rivendell/Discompe silver shifters and also in Simplex Retros), which SunTour needed to control the strong spring on their Cyclone GT RDs.

Go for the Sun Tour bar end shifters (aka Barcons). Ideally, look for a full kit, with dual cable stops and stainless coiled housings. I once found a NOS unopened set, which was complete with cables, housings, cable stop, and ratchet barcons and instructions.

Congrats on the joining the SunTour Ratchet Club!

Can't wait to see that.

I like the suntour bar-cons and the Silver shifters I have right now. I have some SunTour dt shifters and Shimano pods I'm trying to mate up. Will that work or only Silver pods? Any source for bar-end shifter nuts & bolts?

The ratcheting action on the Suntour Barcons is the old style "Power Shifter" style, the newer Silver/DiaCompe shifters is based on the new and improved ratcheting action that started with the Sprint shifters around 1985. It's smoother with finer ratcheting.

Simplex Retrofriction shifters are a whole 'nuther deal- they don't ratchet- it's a spring loaded clutch system.
