Unknown rim/any help?

They are 700c on some cool undated tipo hubs. Would like to rebuild them if not too soft an alloy. No markings/but distinctive shape to them. As always TIA.

IIRC these are Belgian but cannot recall the name.

Recall them as being current in the early to mid-'70's but do not know start/stop dates.

Guessing our non-fixie will recognise them straightaway. ;^ D

there was an "Alesa" rim, originally made in Switzerland but later a MODEL of rim made by Weinmann in Belgium...IIRC and I wouldn't bet money on my memory!

Bikes: roadsters, club bikes, fixed and classic

My pic is a little close but they are similar to these Mavics (without the dimpled rims.)

Bikes: Yes, please.

They look like a pair of Weimanns I have somewhere. Those have a blue branded spacer around the valve stem hole, IIRC.

Any opinions if I should buld them up-or should I souce newer (vintage) but different hoops? They have some nicks-so I thought may be soft/as alloy goes.

Bikes: 1940s Fothergill, 1959 Allegro Special, 1963? Claud Butler Olympic Sprint, Lambert 'Clubman', 1974 Fuji "the Ace", 1976 Holdsworth 650b conversion rando bike, 1983 Trek 720 tourer, 1984 Counterpoint Opus II, 1993 Basso Gap, 2010 Downtube 8h, and...

I think that depends on what you're trying to achieve!

Aluminum "28 inch" rims, the size later known as 700x, are pretty rare. So I'd think these are quite a find.

But my guess is they are not hooked (this you can check) and a pretty soft material (harder to check). Once unbuilt, you will probably find that they aren't particularly round. I could be wrong! Let's hope I am.

I don't expect that. I'm sure you can build them up to a nice, vintage and useable set of wheels, but no way I'd use them on a commuter. On the right vintage bike, maybe more of a showpiece than a rider, they'd be lovely.

Bikes: Yes, please.

"28 inch" was (and still is) a standard wheel size for adult bikes in my part of the world, and has the same 622mm diameter as 700C (except for 28 x 1 1/2, which is 635, but much less common).

I dug out the wheels I mentioned earlier. The rims are unmarked, except for the rather neat blue label around the valve stem that says "Weinmann" and "700C". They came off an early sixties high end supersport bike, so I'd expect them to be of good quality. The rim profile looks similar but not quite the same, I think. No eyelets either.

The Dunlop valves were also standard on anything but racing bikes (or those pretending to be). Those had "French valves", of course.

There is an Atom freewheel attached/so perhaps french it is. I have ridden on them/no hops that I can notice. Thanks for all your opinions-it helps me to make up my mind

The cross section of non-fixie's set appears different than that of juls. Also, non-fixie's is unferruled and juls is ferruled.

juls, is your set box section, is it hook bead?

What are your goals with the rims/wheels?

I snagged a single Weinmann rim similar to yours. But, alas, it is also hookless.

You probably shouldn't put over about 50 PSI into a tire with a hookless rim... So, maybe 700x32 or so... but you should have a wider rim for that. I.E. not too usable.

Looking at mine, the sidewall is short, but it does have a bit of a shelf. Maybe running tubes in a tubeless tire? I'd have to verify diameters.

You're quite right! I need to research my terms before I comment further. More tomorrow....

Bikes: Mostly English - predominantly Raleighs

I've seen Nisi and Rigida rims that look pretty similar. Don't have pictures though.

My goal or plan was to have them respoked w/ss for a 72 step through. Have my spare wheelset on it now/but the hf hubs are pretty They are presta drilled-but I don't run anything over 90psi. Not oem to this bike, but period correct.....

Update,
I believe Clubman has it right. Mavic demontable without the dimples. Found (finally) on velobase:

https://www.bikeforums.net/attachment...1&d=1481235063
https://www.bikeforums.net/attac
hment.php?attachmentihttps://www.bikeforums.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=545369&stc=1&d=1481235063d=545368&stc=1&d=1481235063

I am surprised the older rims went with paper/foil labels-wouldnt it be easy to pirate a design? Hmmm.
Anyway-velo says theyre good/so I'll keep. Thanks all.
