2 old French bikes

Two french bikes I'm looking forward to ride once the snow melts. I'd like to provide some relevant story behind them but really they are just frames I bought and setup with campy 10 speed. The silver is a vitus zx1 with old 16w ventos. Just a joy to ride and suprisingly not harsh. The frame was in pretty rough shape so temporary touchups were applied. Total weight with pedals is just under 20lbs. I picked up some old silver record hubs and campagnolo omega tubulars to build for this..should lower the weight by well over a lb, maybe closer to 2. Those ventos are heavy! Thanks to bf member shutter for frame and ventos.
The gold is a motobecane super record 753 with some funky lugs and woundup forks. I'm suprised how well the veloce 10 speed stuff works on this. The wheels are debadged sciroccos and the crank is the fulcrum rs that merlins been clearing out. Total weight without pedals is just under 19lbs. It rides twitchy at slow speeds but stable when moving. Super stiff for a steel bike.

Wasn't expecting these when I read the title. Guess that shows my age.

Nice bikes, though. Especially like the Vitus.

Cool to see your interest in older bikes and it sounds like you build them with a good hard riding in mind.

I can't call myself a cyclist because I don't really ride to train. I just like to ride so everything I put together is done to provide the best ride possible bearing economics.
Sometimes they come out kinda cool like that zx1. It wasn't something I was looking for because I'm not a collector. Just with time and opportunity I built up a collection of some really fun rides, at a fraction of the cost of new superbikes.
I do/did have modern but I tend to prefer vintage frames with modern components. It's not the best of both worlds, it's just the best ride period, for me.

I see the MBK, and some silver molded probable carbon fibre job...

I was away from the scene when Motobecane evolved to MBK.
I first saw them in Paris in 1989 while I was riding around.

I'm pretty sure you can call yourself a cyclist! And I'm pretty sure your description of why you ride and how you build fits in perfectly here. Cheers to some nice builds!
