Newbaum's bar tape at Amazon

$6 per roll, and you need two rolls.

Black looks best for the longest time, since it hides dirt, but as you can see, the tape you have was black, and it faded, so there's no perfect color.

Here' the latest update. Still cant decide what color bar wrap. As you can see, I could no revive the brooks. It eventually cracked and ripped. So I have a cheapo Schwinn saddle for a place holder. Very, very smooth bike. Extremely quiet.

Here's the 99% finished Raliegh Super Course. I need to replace the freewheel (in transit now) and remove the dork disk. I decided to use generic bar tape that I had in stash.
Let me know what you guys think.

I think you've done very well. You have a good eye for detail.

Funny finding this thread.

I have a twin of your Raleigh in my stand right now undergoing a referb. I also used white cable housing and can't decide between white or black bar tape. I changed the 5 spd cassette for a 6 spd Perfect and the front der to a Suntour Comp V. The downtube shifter is a Huret unit. I am going in to the bike exchange this weekend to find a rear der. probably something Suntour. Hopefully it will look as good as yours when finished.

good job, i have a 73 in the same color, Suntour Blueline drive train and a shimano tourney crank. The SC was a workhorse do anything bike. I also have a Gran Sport that i enjoy riding more and really don't ride my SC as much as would like to. I'm trying to find it a new home.

Did you replace the wheel set or did you just replace the 5 speed unit with a 6?

Bikes: Listed in my signature.

Nice job on the rebuild.

Find an "Ultra-6" (U-6) Suntour freewheel and it will fit in the same space as a 5-speed freewheel.

The rear wheel axle was damaged so I pulled another wheel out of the rafters that was already trued and had new bearings and used that with the 6 speed Perfect freewheel. I measured the drop outs on the bike and it was 126 mm already so the new freewheel fit fine. I got another axle from the bike exchange today for the original Weinman wheel and will put it together tomorrow and see if the perfect freewheel will fit. This wheel had a cycle pro 5 speed 14-24 tooth freewheel on it and I can see no good reason for using it again. The Perfect is 14-32 and I put a Raleigh branded Suntour GT long cage derailleur on so now the bike has much better hill gearing.

By the way the bike weighs just 28 lbs. all up.

I'll post a pic when it is all finished.
