Bikes: '74 Fuji The Ace, '07 S-Works Epic, 88? Hardrock.... A whole bunch more

Puch Marco Polo

Snagged what I think is a 77 Puch Marco Polo built up with a disgusting array of parts including "northroads" style bars made by crimping and bending a steel flat bar backwards...

Got the bike along with a 93 Allez Pro, both in need of help. Question being, what should I do with the Puch? It looks like it may need damn well everything short of the cranks and shifters replaced, but it's a quality frame and pretty clean

Here's a few shots of the bike I asked my roommate to take for me. In as purchased condition. GT rear mech, Spirit front, weinmann stoppers currently pulled by 90s shimano mountain bike levers that were at one time integrated with trigger shifters but hacked off

Reynolds 531 double-butted main frame. A keeper. Your Puch Marco Polo is a nice find!

Not too sure what I should do with it though... The frame looks to be in pretty solid shape, no huge chips or dents and no rust. But just about all the parts on it seem ill suited to the quality of the frame.

True, but it should clean up quite nicely. The Allez also seems to be a bit of a score: Shimano 600 with a DA FD? Nice!

Strip the frame, then keep or sell. Does it fit you?

Not entirely sure to be honest, I'm at school and don't have any tools with me, tape measure included, so I haven't measured it. At $35 each, I just had to grab them. I typically ride a 58, though could go less if I stuck with a city bike set up like it has, though much less janky.

No tape needed, stand over it, then sit on it and ride it. If you can't get a good idea if it fits going around the block a tape won't help much.

Agreed, but it's not currently able to be ridden. Standover seems reasonably close though. I'm oddly proportioned unfortunately and do need to ride before I can tell if a bikes for me. A lot more torso than legs

Bikes: Mostly English - predominantly Raleighs

I don't think that Puch would stand up to the rigors of being ridden in the pool. The Nishiki Submariner was similarly mis-marketed.

Seriously though - try them out for size. For $35.00, I would have snagged them for flipping, but one of them might turn out to be a nice campus rider.

That was sort of the plan, but I like something about the Puch so I don't think I can let it leave without giving it a shot first. The Allez is definitely too small for me.
