3ttt Record Handlebar

I am wondering does the 3ttt Record handlebar exist?

I've found examples of the 3ttt Record stem for a vintage rebuild, but haven't found even a picture of a 3ttt Record handlebar.

What's driving this question is that the 3ttt Record stem and handlebar were specified parts from the 1981 catalog for the vintage race bike I am restoring.

Any help would be welcome. My Thanks

The 3TTT Record stem launched ~1972. At thst time it was always seen paired with a Gran Prix bar. By 1974 there were Record model bars. Catalogue page below from 1974.

Launch version paired with GP bar:

Thanks all, will copy your posts to my "work in progress" folder.

Now I know that the handlebar exist. So the hunt begins to find one, they appear quite a bit harder to find than a Grand Prix. This would be quite a bit later than the early 70s models you have in your posts as it was a component listed in the 1981 catalog, hoping they would look the same?

Ain't vintage fun .

AFAIK the G1 Record stem only was in production for about two years. It is quite possible that there are differing generations of the Record series bar as well. Just to keep things nice and complicated!

I wonder if part of your problem is that the actual model is Grand Prix or Competizione, so that they bars are not labeled as "Record" bars outside the catalog. I have a few of each type of bar but I don't recall seeing "Record" on them.

Btw, I have two Stevensons myself. Lovely bikes.

Thanks again, yes, it will be a bit of a search and I may just settle for the Grand Prix as I'm sure it will work and will fit the age and look of the bike, but if a Record should pop up....

The Stevensons are a joy, one a gift to myself sometime around the big 40 and the tandem a gift to our marriage. Bill is a master craftsman and a hidden treasure, plus a man with wonderful stories about the bicycle industry.

Pretty sure that I have a set and a matching TTT Record stem. Don't plan to use either one on any of my known projects.

One thing to keep in mind about catalog information, the specifications and pictures are not always accurate or even timely. The Council of Learned Elders, here. have given many examples of errors known in various catalogs. Some are kind of shocking in the descrepancy between reality and what got printed.

I would be interested in your information gathered about 3ttt bars, I have three pair with two in use currently. Two are the Competitione model, the third is a Toud de' France, looking to add a Competitione in 40 width. Their bars and stems have been a pleasure to use.

Bill

Well so far so good, what you see above is what I am riding/restoring, but sorry I can't get the specification sheet to expand.

I am restoring my Nishiki Professional whose bottom bracket shell is stamped as made in 1981 which is the same year as the catalog above. This bike also matches the catalog specifications except where noted below and was intact when purchased except for the stem, handlebar, pedals, seat, seat post and rear freewheel.

I've since added Campagnolo Record pedals and Campagnolo Record (fluted) seat post, as per its specifications, but I am not sure if the fluted Campagnolo Record seat post I've installed is a "Super Record" seat post per the catalog specification, but it is beautiful and lets me get my seat in the right position and height, and of a proper age/style, two bolt clamping for adjustment of seat rake.

Because I am riding this bike I went for a freewheel with a 28t ring, the better for my old knees to clamber up hills, though I will pick up a Suntour Ultra 6 freewheel, but again given old knees not sure about staying with the speced freewheel of 13,14,15,17,19,21, may look for a 24/26T Suntour Ultra 6, but the 26t currently on ebay is pricey, what else is new in vintage gear, sigh.

Again according to specifications it had a San Marco(?) "Concor Suede" seat and those I've found and not too pricey, but my butt loves the Selle Italia Max Gel Flow cutout seat. So I am going to listen to my butt and left hamstring which have both stopped their constant protests after 20 miles in the saddle with the addition of this seat, which is now on all my bikes.

OH, one additional thought, the safety spoke reflectors are long gone and will NOT be replaced, that's just so wrong.

Did Bill ever tell you about the time he came into his shop and found his (very young) daughter Laura hacking at a tube with a file? There's more to it, but Bill really needs to tell it.

My 1980 touring bike, with some modern changes. As delivered, it had a six-speed rear with DuoPar, a Spécialités TA Cyclotouriste crank, and Barcons. Sorry that it is a little fuzzy.

A different Bill than the one in the above post, thanks for the information. I can make it readable in size here. The seat post may be a first generation SR post, or one I am not familiar with, but being a two-bolt design leads me to think it could be that type. I have a San Marco Concor Superleggera on both bikes, one suede and the other smooth leather, great saddles for my riding. Seem to have similar builds for both of our tastes.

Best of luck on getting the build completed and thanks again for sharing the catalog cuts.

Bill

Not to side track the thread, but here's an example of Bill's lug work on our Tandem.

The launch Record stem used a nut to secure the handlebar, soon exchanged to a Allen key fixing bolt with a knurled compression fit nut at the back.
Then totally revised with a smooth surface and anodized like Cinelli.
There was a period in late '72- early '73 and no telling what you would receive at a wholesale level.
