Bikes: One new one, a couple old ones, and a mountain bike.

Interesting "Performance" branded bike. High Quality

I figured there can't be too many of these out there given that I couldn't find a single one on all the internets... It appears to be a fairly high quality steel bike with Columbus tubing and Campy dropouts. I'm flirting with the idea of going to take a look. Decent price for all that's on it. Can't tell if the Columbus fork is original and branded such to promote quality, or if it was a replacement.

(eta, seller just messaged me back that apparently the frame is 531 with slanted logo, so it must be a replacement fork)

Anyway, take a look!

Serotta made Performance branded bikes. I’m on mobile, can’t tell about this particular bike.

Others may have made Performance bikes, too.

Looks like something to check out if price is right

Hmm, that's cool. I just found some Performance branded Serotta's, however I only found details on one model- "Speciale". It looks nothing like this bike.
However, I did find some Rossins that were close looking, but that's probably just a coincidence.

Which would be in keeping with the "S" pantographed on the seat stay end at the seat tube cluster. To my eyes the fragments of the sticker remaining on the seat tube bear more of a resemblance to a Columbus decal than a Reynolds. Perhaps the seller is mistaken?

That was kind of what I thought (about the decal) but I just took his word for it.
Maybe I should just go take a look in case. At the price he is asking, I could probably sell just the components and make my money back.

Pretty interesting. I saw a Performance-branded bike years ago with Tange 1 decals and a splatter paint job (over all-yellow). Seemed a lot like a National plant product.

Cilo had cutouts like that on their lugs, but so did others.

Also of note is the very low wear on the wheels. Definitely one to take a look at.

Performance branded bikes seem to be even more rare than Nashbar bikes, or at least they don't show up very often. I have a Performance Parabola touring bike from around 1992. It was made in Taiwan from Tange Infinity tubing, but I have no idea who built it.

Bikes: '00 Koga Miyata Full Pro Oval Road bike.

I'd definitely go take a look at that bike if it fit me. The few Performance bikes I've seen were all nice rides, and that one looks pretty sweet.

The parabola isn't what I would describe as a touring bike, it's a "road hybrid" (that uses off-road geometry, but with mounts for x-long reaching, dual-pivot sidepull calipers and equipped with drop bars mounted with a short, tall 1" quill stem, and with narrowish rims with 135mm hub spacing).
The drivetrain for those not in the know is the not-so-common CX500 hybrid group, with 30-40-50t chainrings and with bar-end shifters instead of the group's Rapidfire mtb-style shifters.

I've had two of them, still have one. They take big tires, are quite strong and are off-road heavy. I was told that they were made by Giant. I took this picture the day after having won a B-class CX race on it in muddy conditions, where it spared my better usual bike from the muddy race's abuse.

I posted a similar bike on this forum that I bought for my son. It turned out to be a repainted Performance Blue Ridge. Does it have Reynolds decal? Ours has a Columbus Dove on the seat stay. It was built by BMZ and is a great riding bike. I'd pick one up if I found one in my size. The catalog page in the link below shows Columbus SL tubes. Here is my thread:

The Campione model logo may be found on the non-drive-side chain stay. Despite what the seller says, that looks like a Columbus logo on the seat tube to me.

I'd like to find one of these (or a PA) and get a ride on it. They look drop-dead gorgeous and I wonder what the ride would be like. Maybe someday.

The fork is original to that frame. Oh, and definitely those are Columbus dove engravings on the stay caps.

Thanks all. Went ahead and snagged it.

trainman999: +10 points for you. It is a Campione. The seller and I looked it over and it was just not visible in the photos, but sure enough it's right under the "Performance" decal.

Also, it is indeed a Columbus decal on the seat tube. Even though it's not in great shape, there is no question to me. Not sure why he thought it was Reynolds 531, but I didn't see any point in correcting him.

Glad to know the fork is original!

It appears the crankset, BB, HS, post, and hubs are all Campagnolo. Not sure if Record or Super since it's the Nuovo era. The FD appears to be Super Record, and perhaps the shifters? The RD is a strange Huret with Drillium applied, just for you DD. Anyway, I did OK on this one. Not sure that I will keep it since I have a Bianchi project kicking around, but any proceeds will go directly to a local charity through my church. Tis the season to be thankful!

I'll post up some more pictures when I clean it up a bit and take a test ride.

Hot bike. Love the paint treatment on the dropouts.

Edit: Is that a jubilee rear derailleur? If so you’ve likely recouped a good amount of what you spent if it’s in good shape.

BMZ built. A guy in my group ride has one. He got it from performance way back when. He likes it a lot and it doesn't slow him down. Is there a "BMZ" on the BB?

Interesting catch. It does appear to be a Jubilee. I had no idea. I also didn't know the drillium was factory.
Cool!

That is a sweet purple Performance, ha!

I was pretty sure that was what I was seeing, but not 100% as I was looking at my phone. Dunno how much you paid for the bike but if you part it out you can make some good money providing the parts are in nice shape. Considering the clean frame/fork, I'd think the parts are in similar shape.

Take it on a test ride before you move it along, tho. I for one would like to get your impression of shifting with that Jubilee RD. I had one once and could never get it to stay in tension/shift precisely across even a corncob FW.

Nice score. I have one of the Performance Serotta Speciales, so I was sure I wasn’t one of those. I love the stance on that bike, and it looks like it would ride well.

I have come come across a couple of BMZ bikes from that time frame that had a lot of the same components and the drilling on the DR seems to be stock on the early 80's competition version of the Dr. Heres a pic of one from classicrendezvous.com. with the same DR.

That's a pretty cool bike. I like the group. And what is that, an aero rear brake mounting technique? Haha.

Here are some pictures. I forgot to take one of the Columbus sticker, but we all ID'd that anyway.
It also has Superbe pedals that I didn't document.

Unfortunately the seatpost is kinda stuck... umph.
I took it for a ride and my knees were not enjoying the low saddle.
I will say, it does ride VERY well. I'm not sure if I would attribute it to the build, the tubes, the group, or what, but it rides well and is quiet.

DD- the RD is not bad at all. I would say it's on par with Campy NR's that I've fiddled with.
