Bikes: 1978 Trek TX700; 1978/79 Trek 736; 1984 Specialized Stumpjumper Sport; 1984 Schwinn Voyageur SP; 1985 Trek 620; 1985 Trek 720; 1986 Trek 400 Elance; 1987 Schwinn High Sierra; 1990 Miyata 1000LT

It isn’t goofy looking to me until it gets to extremes.

Bikes: 1940s Fothergill, 1959 Allegro Special, 1963? Claud Butler Olympic Sprint, Lambert 'Clubman', 1974 Fuji "the Ace", 1976 Holdsworth 650b conversion rando bike, 1983 Trek 720 tourer, 1984 Counterpoint Opus II, 1993 Basso Gap, 2010 Downtube 8h, and...

Seems to me, if it was such a good idea, we'd have got used to the way it looks. If (after two centuries of bicycle development) it looks goofy, it is goofy.

Bikes: YES

Mustache bars upside down have better rise and I have found to be more comfortable. But more casual looking. Works well for chasing down roadies and crushing their spirit on my fixed cog fendered upright...

And I would choose a little discomfort over bad aesthetics up to about 25 miles. Fortunately I have many bikes.

Bikes: Cambodia bike,2012 Fuji Stratos...

My Pro-Tour already has a riser stem on it, the problem right now it that the cable housings were cut too short (by me) and I can not raise it any more.

Here is my physical problem in my neck, it should have a nice curve where mine is straight and the middle three all have bone spurs and degenerated discs.

I converted one of my bikes from drops to flat bars (actually bars have a slight rise in them) last year ended up riding it 100% of the time last year. Loved the fit and riding position. As others have already mentioned, I also installed bar ends to provide another hand position option. Also, make sure you cut the bars to the correct length to give you good hand placements; I find many flat bars to be too long for use on a road/all-around/touring bike.

IslandTimePE, your gravel bike is handsomer than mine, though ours have the same setup.

Not exactly. Just not what you’re used to.

It looks like you should be able to raise that stem- if your cables were long enough.

My guess is that you’d have to change cables anyway- I’d try changing cables and raising the stem. To start out with.

Whoa! Nice 1985 Two-Ten! That was a great year for that bike. All the good touring bits. Did you find yours with the original rack, or was it (like mine) long gone? Sorry for the OT...I love the blue.

Ouch… that stinks. If your housing is relatively high-zoot, Jagwire offers double-ended ferrules that allow splicing of two sections of housing; you'd just need cables city to the new length. Otherwise, might I also recommend Velo Orange's stainless steel braided brake & derailleur cable/housing kits? I use 'em and like 'em.

You don't?

I love looking at a nice cockpit (and hate looking at a goofy one).

Thanks. No original rack, unfortunately. Frame and drive train were in good condition when I found it, but had non-original stem, wheels and saddle.
