WHAT A TREAT!

Fabulous job.

Thanks so much for sharing your finish restoration tips; wonderful information.

A most fortunate machine to have come to your capable hand.

That really turned out lovely, indeed! Can you please, please, please let us know what you think of the Valentino Extra shifting qualites. I've only read bad things, but I have one that I need to put back on a Frejus of similar vintage to your Holdsworth, and am wondering if it will be worth the effort or if I should upgrade. Cheers!

So far, so good with the Valentino RD. There is a lot undeserved negativity around low end bike parts that seems to be part of the hobby. Properly set up and not worn, this one works well, remembering of course it was the early seventies. I wanted to experience a period bike and this was a good candidate. Most of these older derailleurs main limitation is using them with larger rear cogs than they were designed for. It surely works better than the Benelux on my '58 Sun! The front derailleur, seems slow to find the new CR but it also works fine. Have you posted the Frejus?

Thanks for the review. I'll give the Valentino a go... I'll need to take it apart for a thorough cleaning and greasing in any case, so hopefully it'll work decently after that. I posted about the Frejus here:

A Frejus Tour de France c. 1964

Cheers!

The Frejus looks like a great old bike. Just enough out of the ordinary to create interest. Good luck with it!
