Black & Whites vs Color

Just playing around with pictures and I thought this was interesting. What does your bike look like in black and white compared to full color, here is my celeste in color and a b&w.

Lets see your grey tones.

Going grayscale doesn't help this one.

I like the idea behind this thread. Ill have to get busy.

I know Celeste is the color to have on any Bianchi, but I have to say your Bianchi looks killer in B&W.

Great idea for a thread, here's my contribution...

It's important to note that black and white, coming as it does originally from color, can vary dramatically depending upon how you filter each color in the translation. The pink tubing typically would be a much lighter value in a neutral conversion. Instead, I filtered toward an infrared bias and really like the dramatically darkened frame.

Took these a few nights ago with my cheapo phone cam. The Gazelle attempt at leading a team of plywood reindeer. No photo edit play but only with and without flash. ho-ho

The leaves look more detailed as well. Filtering in black and white can bring out more detail.

I like these, as an old photographer, with a wet darkroom, I just love the new photography . Photo shop, convert to gray scale, adjust, control+P, done. KB

Picked up a used Pentax DSLR last year and this is one feature I have played with. Just like film, a B&W photo really needs to be composed and exposed for that purpose. I learned from taking images in color for color they don't always translate nicely to B&W.

Bitd I used to be a lithoman, and operate reproduction cameras, shooting copy paste ups and doing halftones. Our litho film needed red light darkroom, color pictures did not produce very well they came out flat in the highs and shadows heavy. Grayscale was needed for all non 4 color process printing. A shop could overcome this by using a Panchromatic film but that was difficult because it had to be used in complete darkness.

I used to do that kind of masking, the pasteup artist would do that as well. We used to manually cut a Mylar based produce with razor and exacto blade for all windows reguardless of shape.

Were you a “Stripper”? For those that don't know what that is please get your mind out of the gutter and see https://tinyurl.com/yaff8x4d

Crazy how Photoshop’s pen tool and magic wand replaced razor blades and Mylar virtually overnight.
