That's the way I read it before (with a direct reference to the system used by Venmo for direct depositing), but now what I'm seeing from eBay's end is that the payment process will be "customized" and that there will probably be many options available for buyers and sellers to choose from. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

The seller is admitting he is a crook, trying to cheat eBay out of the fees he agreed to pay them when he listed the item. Why would you want to do business involving trust with a self-admitted crook? Agree. Really bad idea.

Bikes: Ron Cooper touring, 1959 Jack Taylor 650b ladyback touring tandem, Vitus 979, Joe Bell painted Claud Butler Dalesman, Colin Laing curved tube tandem, heavily-Dilberted 1982 Trek 6xx, René Herse tandem

The seller is not only wanting to dodge Ebay fees, but possibly also Euro taxes, which can be pretty high on certain types of income depending on the country.

I bought my Herse like this. I was in competition with a couple other buyers. I believe it was my accommodation of the paypal friends & family thing that made me the winner. However, I had a friend in France who was on the phone with me, at the seller's house, looking at the bike while I paid the guy. This friend was my buyer protection. Lucky, I guess.

Now, if the seller has integrity to a fault, he'll pay Evilbay (which I don't care about, they have grown progressively worse and worse to sellers like me) and the French government (which of course I do care about, because I hope one day they will take me in as a naturalized citizen). It's his choice, and his business, not mine. I got my bike and all's well.

Well I won the item on the 17th and still haven't heard back from the seller other than his offer to let me pay him via paypal friends and family. I going through eBay next as I want out of this deal at this point. The seller is just being squirrely.

You say that like ebay doesn't manipulate the system to their benefit. Maximizing profit is all that is going on here.

Fair enough but at least with eBay you get something which is a degree of protection when you buy and sell online. With my seller, my guess is I'll get nothing once I use paypal friends and family to buy that headset,

Bikes: Road ready: 1993 Koga Miyata City Liner Touring Hybrid, 1989 Centurion Sport DLX, "I Blame GP" Bridgestone CB-1. Projects: Yea, I got a problem....

When folks ask for friends and family, I just add the extra 3% to cover the fee's.

We're on the same page. My point is when that seller changes the terms of the deal, you can walk. When ebay changes the terms of the deal, you get screwed. Corporations are the real *******s, not some powerless schmuck like that seller.

EBay’s rules are there in plain sight. Do you not honour contracts in your line of work?

As a twist on the memorable utterance of one of President Reagan’s Cabinet Secretaries, you no like-a da rules, you no play-a da game.

My goodness! We have a real live American socialist in our midst. Thought to be extinct like the coelacanth, one has just been hauled up from the depths and lies flopping right here in our boat.

But I’ll bite. Tell me exactly how eBay changed the terms of a deal, ever, after the deal was made. That a buyer or a seller didn’t read the terms beforehand doesn’t count.....neither if either thought the rules gave him rights he didn’t have.

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's/60's road bikes.

I have won several Ebay.FR auctions and received several requests to pay via another service, due to sellers complaining about fees. In my cases, I really wanted the items I won, so I offered to cover the seller fees. I was not thrilled to do that, but I am very satisfied with my purchases, at the prices I ultimately paid. Sorry, but the photo is as I received the bike, not how it is now. (I wish it was warm enough to melt the snow and see grass again.)

I bought a 1940's mystery French bike late last year, but I apparently do not have any photos showing more than just a couple parts at a time.

I imagine I will be doing that again soon to buy a set of 1950's French handlebar/stem, and maybe some hubs/wheels, once I find what I want. I want to finally finish the Criterium.

Seller will still have listing and final sale fees from ebay that have nothing to do with how the buyer pays for the item.

You are actually saying ebay has not changed their terms in the last 25 years of their existence? I get a notice all the time when they do. Next question, have those term changes benefited you or ebay? Did you have any say whatsoever in the changes? Say yes to either, I got terms for you for this great bridge.

But go ahead, keep on thinking they are there for your benefit and the root of all good is money.

Not for me: I had one item to sell on eBay this past week and was given ONE choice to receive payments now and going forward (eBay will deposit directly to my bank account and also will auto-deduct all fees as well as TAXES before depositing). The "choice" I got is "take it or leave".
