Time for the stoker to finally do some work....

Here's two 99bis rings on a 93 crank:

Jon Vara's 93 triplizer rings are top quality and affordable, but if anyone's crazy enough to want to make one like mine, I can explain the steps. Actually I'm pretty sure I've written it up before on BF, so apologies for the repeat.

A triplized 93 is not better than a 99 in any way that matters. I think it's actually a less-elegant solution because of all the extra bolts needed. This is just for crazy people who really want lower gears on a "racing" bike that just has to have a 93 for some sentimental reason.

Bikes: Several, mostly not name brands.

If you want to create right-hand pedal threads, a machine shop would probably be able to do it for you.

Or it must stay original. That’s why I got one of Jon’s 93 triplizers for my dad’s bike (solid workmanship BTW). Sentimental value, but still useable for hills.

Hello guys. While you are at it, how would you compare Stronglight 80 with the 99?

I think since mountaindave has this nice stoker crank he should build vintage tandem starting with this base..... could be a C&V find the frame/parts collaboration....

I checked the threads with a right pedal - it went in half way by hand before it got stiff. Then I checked a left pedal and it did the same thing! The threads are crossed, I can see it looking close up. But the left arm is a legit left arm.

And of course the lack of an inner shelf is because this was for the single ring of a timing chain only. Why waste material with that extra shelf?

However, this all makes me a little nervous - I don’t know if I’d want to use that as a single speed crank now that I know that it has be re-tapped for a right pedal.

BF members for the win!
Nice job, Encyclopedia Brown!
This is your chance to build that left-side-drive fixie you've always wanted!

The reason I ask is that I'm tempted to get one of those. I see them on sale here and there, even NOS. Though in such case it's usually only the drive side.

Can anyone confirm my suspicion that 80 has wider tread then 99?
Many thanks in advance.
