duanedr did an awesome job of documenting the repair process on his flickr! Essentially he carved out the one piece headtube and slid in a new tube. So the once faux lugs are now lugs proper. ha! Aesthetically correct to the original and should be stronger than the original!

Oh man I am impressed and proud of you for going the extra mile(s) to bring back an old friend. We should all have machines we would do that for.

On an unrelated note, my son lives at the Battery, and I just restored an old TREK for him to ride around on. He'll get it Christmas

I think I've killed 8 or 9 frames at this point This one has just been so much fun, and it covers such a broad spectrum of riding for me. It was definitely worth it.

Hopefully he puts it to good use! He's spitting distance from the Silver Comet Trail as well as some other cool paths in that area that lead over to Sope Creek!

I lived close to the other end (Alabama's Chief Ladiga Trail). We would ride to the state line and invariably hang out with the Georgia riders

Everyone got a great kick out of it! It's a lot faster than it looks! It doesn't have a very fast/aero riding position, but it does have a very strong riding position. I can sit in any draft all day long with it!

2,114.8 miles post repair! Bike spends most of it's time with the rack on and with flat pedals, but still occasionally makes it out for some group rides. I've been working on a set of 26" wheels for it, but I've had a hard time taking the 700x38 slicks off of it until I come up with another frame to use that wheel/tire combo. It's just too good.

Man, this is a great story. I really like the looks of the bike, as is too. For me, it's much better than a more generic powdercoat.

My big goal for this winter is to seal it as is. It's become too cumbersome to clean the flash rust off when I forget to oil it regularly.

I'm still bringing the rear wheel's tension up, but couldn't wait to get a test fit. 650b x 50mm

Could I ask your height and cycling inseam?
I have an ‘83 850 I want to build into an all rounder that’s the 22” size. I ride a 24” in vintage Trek road frames and it would be great to have another data point.

Good to see this one again. You sticking with this build? Looks versatile.

Only small changes! I broke the stem this past week. For a road stem, I think it did great considering the amount of abuse it went through. Fortunately an inconsequential failure as I was getting started at a light. As much as I loved the Tioga Prestige, I'm unsure if I can bring myself to use another although I would like to get back to something -17* again.

I'm also about to pull the trigger on this set of 46/30 chainrings: https://www.ebay.com/itm/12419332395...mis&media=COPY

On the beach near Port St. Joseph this past weekend with my wife:

I've been on a bit of a fixed gear kick lately. I swapped the 11spd hub out with a white industries eno hub. The spoke lengths worked so I'm thankful for that!
I've bit the bullet and fitted a threadless quill adapter with a bar and stem from my parts bin. They're not the most attractive thing, but they work so well and allow me to use the cockpit I want for cheap.

Good to see an update on this one. I like all the different iterations it's been through. Let me know when you don't want it anymore. Be glad to come down to GA to get it. I'm from GA and get to Atlanta every once in awhile for a visit.

Do you happen to know if this also hold true for the 1983 850 made from Tange OS Tubing?

Yes, they all used Japan-brazed fork and rear triangle assemblies.

Feel free to holler if you're ever passing through and looking to ride!

I've just passed 6500 miles (post repair) on this thing making it the highest mileage of anything currently in the stable. I don't foresee myself getting tired of it anytime soon.

Sounds good, man. Don't blame ya. Wouldn't want to let that one go, either.
