If you ride on rollers, you will eventually fall, so keep that in mind when you are choosing where to set them up, don’t place them next to your fish tank or flat screen tv.

Keep a steady rhythm, and balance yourself with your backside (sounds weird, but you’ll figure out what I mean). When riding on rollers, pay attention to their sound. Rollers are the greatest tool to perfect your pedal stroke, you don’t want to hear rollers go “whir, whir, whir” with each pedal stroke, you want to here a perpetual “whhhhhiiiiirrrrrr” which you get when you turn the pedals instead of stepping on them.

Have fun.

Good observation. I’ve found this too but did not articulate it. I know “no one really pulls up on the back stroke” except me but smoothly using the whole crank circle comes naturally when striving for that “whhhhiiiirrrr”.

And jadmt video, above, is informative but about as interesting as watching golf 😕. For me, if it was not for great music loud on the CD player rollers would about be as interesting as watching golf. But worth it.

I've ridden Kreitlers, they're much nicer. Nice enough to do a century on. Once.
I wish this wasn't true, but I believe you. Nobody makes that claim even in jest. That is an amazing feat.

Funny roller story.

I had a set in my barracks room when I was in the Army, but needed to get rid of stuff when I ETS'd (got out). I had a mini garage sale of sorts.

Some married guy that I didn't interact with on the daily saw them and asked what they were. I said that these are bike rollers, and it allows you to ride your bike indoors. He then said that his wife wanted to ride a bike indoors. He paid the $40 (or something close) and grabbed them.

About a week later, I ran into him as I was packing up, and I asked about the rollers. He just gave me this look. I knew in an instant. "You want your 40 bucks back?" I asked.

I was dumb enough to try it a second time. I think I came up something like 6 miles short in the allotted time. I told the crew that my heinie was calling the shots this go round and said, "Enough!"..

He'd have had a much easier time if the rollers were adjusted to place the axis of the front roller directly below the front wheel axle, instead of behind it.

A couple weeks ago a set of pro rollers showed up for sale on a classifieds site here in Tokyo. These were the big berthas that are found in the training rooms in the Keirin tracks throughout Japan. They are made of stainless steel, and have really big drums, and racers ride on them at cadences faster than 130 rpm.

But they were too big, too heavy, and impossible to hide from my wife.
