Here's a blue version of the Portofino I like even better. Check out the brake levers and the saddle:
Better, simplified. The other was just an assault on my old eyes. Knobbies, tan side walls, weird rims, magnificent fade.

Although that seat cluster. Again, a bit too much. And why is the seat post 2-tone?

Nitto. There's also a similar Nitto made for Rivendel.

Is the ridge on the bar clamp area intended to give me a wedgy when I sit on the bars?

Well, WRT the knobbies and the tan sidewalls: that's the retro/gravel trend, I'm afraid. I wondered about the seatpost as well. My guess is that the paint doesn't work on the adjustable bit of the post, and this is what they came up with as a solution. While the most honest, it is also also the least attractive part of the design, IMO.

Bikes: Some old ones and some new ones

I think the Battaglins are just beautiful, a modern take on a chrome-lugged frame. As much as I love a vintage chrome-lugged frame, time marches on.

Yep, all of ‘em.
Even the ones on the bikes I own.
And even the ones I like.

Just saying there are better choices for that bike. The blue one has the simple crabon rims and black road tread. There are similar for gravel. And I am still perplexed about the seat cluster when they have a perfectly good alternative.

Interesting comparison. Next to the Portofino that Palladio actually looks a bit plain! Quite a feat. The Italians do OTT better than anyone.

Love these guys, fantastic history and legacy right up to current day.

They are still doing it their way and fully succeeding by all accounts.

These bikes are nothing short of phenomenal in person and can be altered some in the process but the new ones are being purpose built for the group and components that lock it down pretty hard.

They were on the short list when I built my Strawberry and had I seen them in person at that point I may have gone that way.

They were at MADE both years and great to talk with, then had a meet and greet at Lakeside bicycles the Monday after, it was very cool.

They do have quite the range. The simplicity of a pointy lugged 1960s Cinelli to the blinged out paint of a fully panto-ed 1980s Colnago. I just happen to prefer the latter, but god bless the former.
