Bianchi Model Question

I have a 1984 Bianchi Tipo Corsa 28T Specialisima that I built when it was new when I worked in a bike shop on Long Island, N Y.. I have no clue what 28T means. Is it the maximum capacity of of the Camagnolo derailleur- 28 teeth? It's been driving me nuts for 40 years!

Bikes: Bikes??? Thought this was social media?!?

Drivin ya nuts for 40years? 40 years?!? You're too far gone - the answer won't fix your nuttiness.

@juvela - Who shakes a lamb's tail?

edit: It was the Very Special model for those needing a 42/28 bailout gear!

Bikes: Too many to list here check my signature.

How did I not see this sooner? Bianchi84 Do you still have the bike? Any other pics? Maybe a closeup of the sticker?

THe Bianchi USA caltalog just list it as a Tipo Corse and it came with a rather mundane 13-23 Regina FW. It seems odd they put something on such a nice machine to designate the RD capicity. I know some Alloros or Nuovo Alloros had 12 Velo or 12 V on them to indiacte they were 12 speeds.

Is that your ambulance?

Bikes: Marinoni, Paramounts, Raleigh Pros, Colnago, DeRosa, Gios, Masis, Pinarello, R. Sachs, Look, Falcon, D. Moulton, Witcomb, Woodrup, Atala, Motobecane, Bianchis, Fat City, Frejus, Follis, Waterford, Litespeed, d'Autremont, others, mostly '70s-'80s

I can sure see why you kept it! Could the number represent 28 victories in the Classics? That seemed to be a popular thing to call out by various European makes, especially the Italians.

Not my ambulance but couldn't resist getting a picture with ECTO 1. Here are some more pictures. I still have the bike. Picture is from around 2 years ago before I built new wheels for it. I built the bike new when I worked in a bike shop on Long Island NY.

Bianchi84 That's Odd but I think I have to agree with you about the max tooth unless someone can come up with a better answer.

Great looking Bianchi

I certainly don’t know for sure but my somewhat educated guess would be 28 for “28” wheels, that peculiarly Italian designation for 700c still used today, and t for tubolari being tubular tyres, as opposed to clinchers for this one-from-the-top racer.

Thank you!

Bikes: An ever changing list of keepers, long term visitors and short term visitors

At the risk of hijacking’s the thread - I have a similar question about an 84 Bianchi that I own

I have an 84 Bianchi which has a Specialissima sticker. It is an Campione d’ Italia 84. However - nowhere in the catalogues that I’ve seen mention or reference the 84 designation - similar to the 28T question on Bianchi84 bike.

I was told a couple of things about my bike -
1. There was no “formal / specific” Specialissima offered in 1984, so any bike in their race category - Tipo down to Campione, was sub-branded as a Specialissima. The frames are the same, differences were in component groups.
2. 84 designation on mine references that it was an Olympic year here in the US and offered as such.

I like the explanation on the 28T Tipo on wheel size and tire type. I had a lower end 84 that was a clincher / 27” wheel.

If any of the experts can confirm anything about the 84 Campione, I would appreciate it.

thanks
